Massive Char Sale (100 bard, rogue, paladin, cleric, 79, 80 wizards, lots more)

I am an anal-retentive lawyer, so here are my rules:
Rules:

1. All Characters come essentially naked, with no guarantee of gear. If something doesn’t sell in the item auction, and it’s on a character you win, you’re in luck, you get the crap no one else wanted. Since I’m not bothering to sell every damn thing on every character, it won’t be literally naked. All silvers will be sold.
a. The exception to this rule are the two paladins, who will come with their bonded weapon. The 100 pally has a 5x sancted falchion, the 70 pally has a 4 sancted maul.
2. All characters are male, except the 92 empath, who is female.
3. All characters have a fixskills, since none of them have been played in 2 years. Thus, I will not be listing skills.
4. All guilded characters (warriors and rogues) are pretty much on the verge of/just were kicked out of their guild, and will need to be reinitiated for the initiation fee. It’s like 15k, don’t be cheap. This does mean, however, guild masters will need to be reinstated as guild masters, which is a bit more of a tedious process. The 100 rogue I reinstated myself, and have his passcode, but he hasn’t been reinstated as a master yet.
5. I will not accept silvers for character auctions. There are minimal MBs for these characters, I am quitting, and there’s no way anything you offer me will equate to the 12 years of playing, much of it premium, so I’m not trying to squeeze every last dollar.
6. I will not publish the name of bidders, so if you don’t trust me, tough shit. Unless they post in this thread, of course.
7. Because I’m simultaneously selling the items off these characters, item auctions will have to end first before character sales are processed. A character sale will be processed when either all its listed gear is sold, or the end date of the item auction occurs, whichever comes first. You will not be required to pay before the sale is processed.
8. The end date of the items auction will be December 11th, at noon EST. Character auctions will be completed by the 18th. On the 11th, all high bids will be accepted, regardless of bid. My subscription bills on the 19th, so I want the whole thing shut down by then.
9. Auctions will go once, twice, sold, daily at noon EST, though I will update as often as possible silently. Bids will be updated in first post only.

I'm trying to figure out how they expect someone who freezes their account to continue to pay the rent. Seems unreasonable, to me. If the shop still exists and is just sitting there, I don't see how it hurts anyone to let you pay the back rent and move forward from there. I've heard a few situations of Simu screwing loyal customers, but this one tops them all. Have you no recourse (besides the black hole that is "feedback")?

When the properties were brought back online and put back into play, all the accounts that had private homes and hadn't played in X years, were summarily repossessed, and the 3 month rule was put into effect to keep those with a very limited resource active so they could be re-distributed as people left.

Was amusing to see who kept the properties more or less intact, and those who wanted wholesale changes to the history of the area.

Lothwyn later added the 'one per living player' rule which is odd given the other rules on accounts and ownership, I sorta agree with it, but realize its at odds with nearly every other rule on multiple accounts.

Having been a customer to both parties, its my opinion that you are both honest brokers. I'm sure whatever happened will be fixed as soon as Paypal gets its crap together. My guess is that TheE just had so much money coming in all at once and it raised a red flag somewhere. To reiterate though, I have dealt with both of you extensively and you've both always been extremely honest brokers.

So, I called paypal as well. This is what I was told.

During a "regular review", they found "unusual activity" on my account, and put a hold on it. The woman at customer service would not tell me what they were reviewing, or what may have triggered the review, or what in the review warranted putting my account on hold. After asking which transaction was in dispute, I told her that no transaction was in dispute as far as I knew, my account just had a hold on it. When she asked me what goods I was selling, I stalled, and said people were just sending me money.

This probably wasn't the right thing to say, but I'm pretty sure saying I was selling characters in an online game would be less right to say. She took this as some sort of indicator of "unusual activity". She asked for my business license, she asked for my website, of which I had none. She then closed my account and said they couldn't do business with me any more. She insisted there was no one else I could talk to about the matter, and that my "appeal" for the limitation on my account was denied, and my account closed. Basically, she told me to fuck off.

Meanwhile A) the money I had in there is subject to a 180 day hold, and B) I can't accept any more payments, or open a new paypal account.

The curious thing about this is: they had no reason to put a hold on my account, unless somehow getting 6k sent to you over a month warrants a hold. AFAIK, no one's transaction was disputed. So either someone informed them, or I was the victim of a really unlucky and unusually thorough "screen".

Meanwhile, I have to apparently wait 6 months for the proceeds of my auction.

So, I'm either really pissed at one of you, or I'm glad that I don't ever see a need for paypal again, and glad that my last association with GSIV is a hugely bitter one.

Swami, I don't know what this means in regards to that payment.

It's probably a tax issue or something. Once your account would hit 10k it's a new ball game and you need to declare what the amount of money's from I believe. So for paypal with instances like this it's probably better off to avoid people who say "people are just sending me money" so they don't have to go into great detail with who they report to(IRS?). After 9/11 moving money around became a big issue. I know somebody who headed compliance for a major bank and I talked with her a bit about stuff like this. Its likely stopped on suspicion of some sort of money laundering thing. Obviously, he wasn't laundering money, but Paypal saw unusual activity and they wanted to limit their liability. That's my best guess.

I've actually had this happen before with PayPal, but it was about 3 years ago and had nothing to do with activities that violated TOS.

If you don't use the account much and they see a sudden ramp in payments (sent or received) they put a hold on the account to investigate, assuming something fradulent is occuring. The one time this happened to me it was for a spurt of $4k of eBay transactions and I was told the account would be locked for 30 days while they investigated. I did talk to a supervisor and they claimed they escalated the investigation, and my account was unlocked after 3 days.
