Any of you ever go through with this? I'm getting mine done on the 21st, day after my bday! It's great because it reminds me of the movie Sublime where the guy goes in for routine surgery the day after HIS birthday and gets all fucked up.

Doesn't help much that everytime my mom brings up the surgery she mentions that it's possible I could bleed to death while recovering. :)

The real reason is that he heard that you lose your gag reflex if you have it done. Good for business.

IIRC, my old roommate had them pulled because he kept getting strep throat, and they have something to do with that. Wasn't life threatening, but it was definitely a quality of life issue.

Definitely a quality of life issue. I've never experienced more pain in my entire life so i'll be looking forward to never having one again. A PA can be life threatening though if not treated in time, swelling can cause your throat to close shut or the infection can spread and all that fun stuff.

Good luck, I'm sure everything will go fine! :)

they say it's really bad to do it as an adult and pretty bad at any time really. A lot of doctors wont even do them anymore.

:yeahthat:

Allegedly there was a relationship between my tonsils/adenoids and my chronic ear infections, so out they came.

I had a buddy who had it done as an adult. Afterwards, he woke up in the middle of the night choking and unable to breath. His sutures had come lose and he'd bled out a good pint or more and a bunch of it had clotted in his throat. He coughed up one nasty golfball sized blood ball and was able to breath again. A quick trip to the hospital and some new stitching and he was AOK.

So yeah. Good luck.

Similar thing happened last night. Put my son to bed and was in my room watching a movie/playing gemstone when I felt slight trickle in the back of my throat. Thought it might have been mucus or something like that so I went to the bathroom and started spitting up blood. Then it was like someone turned on a faucet and blood just started spraying all over the sink. By the time I was at the hospital the blood was flowing like crazy out of my mouth and nose. Luckily I don't get squeemish or anything at the sight of blood. All in all I probably bled out a good 5 or 6 cups :) I'm all good now, back on the pain meds and liquid diet though :(

This is why I want to get mine out.
