Cheapest way to change $ into € (Euros)?

I need to change four or five grand into Euros. Don't ask...

Where can I get the best rate of exchange? Bank? American Express? I need hard currency, not travelers cheques. I'd like to not get assraped on commission if I can avoid it. I should have done this a few months ago when the rate was better.

If it were me, I would ask at my local branch bank. Their commission should be negligible compared to anything you would get overseas.

Don't you have an E*Trade account?

If you do, that's the best route. Do the exchange using E*Trade and then withdraw the cash.

Don't go with a bank, those guys will always rip you off real bad.

Best bet appears to be with a Bank of America ATM card at a Global ATM Alliance Bank. Everything else appears to be 1% or greater.

I need to have the money before I get in country, so I'm still not sure that withdrawing from a DB ATM will work, especially considering the amount of cash I will need. I need a solution within the USA to have the money in hand before I get on the plane.

Pics will be difficult, but if someone finds me a cheap (like 1% or less) deal inside the USA for this, I'll see what I can do.
