Anyone have any ideas on how much one should train in ambush?
(for a claidh swinger)
I'd like to just be able to aim Accurately on every shot and never miss a chance by stalling.
Is there an efficient amount of ambush that I can train so that I can ambush effectively like that on every swing?
Any help and advice on the subject matter would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm 1.5x in ambush and hiding, and I still miss. You'll never hit what you aim at every time.

Claids are also one of the hardest weapons to aim.

Switch to a mattock/maul and you'll have a better chance. Flamberges even more.
Also, if you are open aiming, it takes CMAN, ambush, and percep into consideration.

I am content with my 2x CM 1x perception and 20 ranks of ambush with my greatsword (soon to be a maul yay) while open ambushing.
I'm 2x CM and with 20 ranks of ambush i was aiming successfully about 75% of the time with a claid. I just recently got up to 30 ranks of ambush, but haven't really noticed much of a difference yet. (It's only been a couple of days).. I'm pretty sure there's a post here somewhere that covers this topic in depth.

I have 1x cman, no ambush, and .75x perception and I aim about 60% with my mattock

">Could someone remind me what skills factor into aiming from the open? - Metadi
The Ambush and Combat Maneuvers skills factor into aimed hurled attacks from the open. Ambush skill alone is taken into account when aiming from hiding.

He's talking about HURLED weapons. I know I can find something strictly about melee, but I don't know where it's at right now. Perception doesn't factor into aimed attacks unless you're an archer.

Also, if you are open aiming, it takes CMAN, ambush, and percep into consideration. This is not true, as Asrial mentioned. Only CM and ambush matter for open aiming.
As a Warrior, you will get an enormous boost to aiming if you have Weapon Bonding with the relevant weapon. Also worth noting is that aiming appears to take into account only the raw number of ranks (as opposed to ranks per level), so you will continue to see improvement in aiming as you continue to level (assuming you 2x CM).
I was under the impression ambushing targets had perception factored into it too :/

Perception affects aiming. The better your ability to ambush, the less ability you need to aim. Critter size vs your size also plays a factor. Of course, body parts do too, but that's standard for any ambush.

Perception does NOT affect aiming except with ranged weapons.
