Hi everyone. I keep hearing that you need an 8x weapon for demons.... I'm a little ignorant when it comes to demon hunting as I wasn't aware there were "demons" in the game. Would someone mind explaining why I would need an 8x weapon and which creatures are considered to be demons? Also I have a 6x bow and 4x arrows...could I hunt demons with that? What about Voln Fu? Thanks!

The demons summoned via 725 (or during the GSS). If one breaks loose (ie: bad botch on 740) they need to be killed. To strike them, you either need a +40 blessed weapon, OR if a sorcerer successfully Phases them to stabilize their chaotic pattern, they can be hit with a +20 blessed weapon.

You would need a +40 arrow to shoot it at them.

Shit. I guess I'll need to buy some more PP.

Not all that common. I only heard of 3 loose demons this year, and that stuff always gets posts when it happens.

Two things come to mind...

1) as Belnia said, only 3 demons in 2009. Not a significant amount or impact.

2) the ones that do exist done by Voraviel, if ever released as a consistently huntable critter, would have to be rebalanced to be hunted by the majority of players, as 4x is the baseline for players that they design at, and expecting anyone to have 8x is way off the mark for most.

Bottom line, I wouldn't plan your purchases around demons.

But imagine how awesome it would be if there was a valence hunting area packed with demons which were all as tough as nails and invasion quality.
And imagine if like Teras it had an affect on your characters appearance but only if you've spent a terrific time in there, where you are slightly shifting or out of sync in some way. And a sorcerer can bring you back to normal by casting 704 at you.

Also when will I stop starting sentences with conjunctions?

There was a time when it was pretty darned nice to have a weapon that could hit demons right off the bat. But now days they are exceedingly rare. The only times they have been frequent were during the second Griffin Sword War, and on an isle that was visited by the Wave Dancer cruise ship. In both of those cases, an 8x blessable weapon was highly advantageous. I took a nice weapon up to 8x just for that purpose actually, and it served me well.

Now days though? Not too likely you're going to see one any time soon.

Also, they will phase in completely all on their own eventually. Not a very pleasant wait though!

Knowing Simu it would require an 8x weapon but the area would have disarming and death theft.

Good times.

Catastrophic failure with 740 is quite rare. But when it does happen, it is good sorcerery science!

Haha, nice.

I remember when the spell first came out I was in Icemule when Sazlo? had a failure. What came out was a GM played demon {some kind of Sorcerer demon, go figure} that had a small pack of dogs with him. It was extremely amusing.
