I have a lvl 17 ranger that i reactivated that I havent played in a long time. have a few questions about what you guys think is better and if somethings would work.

can you build a ranger that goes into voln fu and sniping without skimping out on all the other goodies?

what are the pros/cons of both?

if not what is a good build for open + voln fu and a good build for a sniper.

thanks

You won't have the TPs to do both well. If you're going to go the Voln Fu route, go open aiming for archery.

if you are going sniping do you need to do 2x/1.5x/1x in stalking and hiding? or what ya need to go?

can you give me a core build for both?

Regular sniping:

2x ranged
2x perception
2x ambush
2x hiding

Open-aiming ranged and Voln-Fu:

2x ranged
2x brawling (you can get away with less, but you want to be the best, don't you?)
2x perception
0x-2x ambush for AS depending on your preference

Balanced sniping and Fu:
2x ranged
2x perception
1x brawling
1x ambush
1x hiding

You'll be crappy sniper/hider and after level 40 or so a fairly crappy Fu-er.

Which is the strongest build would you say? Obviously not the last one.

2x ranged
2x brawling (you can get away with less, but you want to be the best, don't you?)
2x perception
0x-2x ambush for AS depending on your preference

Add .5x-1x CM, armor to brig (30 ranks), double chain (50 ranks), augmented chain (70 ranks), or hauberk (110 ranks), 1x-2x PF, 1x HP, 1x Dodging, and flavor to taste.

This is how I train. I don't have stalking and hiding but I deem it fairly useless anyway if you train like this and join Voln. I started off hiding and sniping but it's really boring and doesn't really allow you to be creative when you hunt. I honestly don't see any added bonus unless it's essential to your roleplaying. Besides, ranger spells are really cool and can't be cast from hiding.

Ok, that said, this is how I train.

2x ranged
2x brawling
2x perception
1x ambush (2x eventually)
1x dodge (2x hopefully)
1x armor until 60 for double chain (70 if you want augmented chain)
1x combat maneuvers (2x hopefully, maneuvers are so cool)
1x physical training
1x spell training
1x harness power

You'll still have plenty of training points left over for other skills like climbing, swimming, magic item use, etc..

Does a sniping ranger need to train in cman? or no?
And what about dodging?

Rangers have some of the worst Cmans available. I wouldn't bother with 1x CM until post 70. 1x Dodge would be a better use of extra TPs.

he was talking about open archery and voln fu.....so does your still apply to sniping?

1x cm is still useless for open or snipe archery, fu or not.

it is hard to get survival and first aid involved with my build.....should i just skip it for now and come back to it when i have more tps?

This is what I'm working on. I have left over tps. Should I just put them in climbing swimming for a couple ranks? survival and first aid? or extra armor so i can get to 30 ranks quickly? Any other suggestions? Thanks again everyone.

1x armor
2x ranged
2x ambush
1x physical fitness
1x dodging
2x stalking and hiding
2x perception
1x harness power
1x ranger spell

I agree that we have some pretty lousy cmans but my goal is to eventually master sweep, disarm, and feint. I have disarm out of the way and almost done with feint.

Here is my build:

(at level 53), your current skill bonuses and ranks (including all modifiers) are:
Skill Name | Current Current
| Bonus Ranks
Armor Use..........................| 155 55
Ranged Weapons.....................| 210 110
Brawling...........................| 210 110
Ambush.............................| 155 55
Physical Fitness...................| 155 55
Dodging............................| 155 55
Harness Power......................| 155 55
Stalking and Hiding................| 210 110
Perception.........................| 210 110
Climbing...........................| 105 25
Swimming...........................| 50 10

I am worried about not having CMANs but I figure I'll be kicking my way till about 60 trains or so...

Love to hear thoughts comments and suggestions.
