What is everyone's favorite profession to play? I'm surprised this hasn't been done?

A bard that is any race besides Gnome, and has roughly 50mill EXP.

Love playing my warrior. Between Guild, the CMans, being able to take massive hits and chuckle... I love it. Its definitely a lot different for GS3 now that you have all these options for combat.

In all honesty, I find semis to be the most fun to play in any level range. The mix of magic and weapons is just plain fun. Hasted warmages also qualify for this.

My THW empath is lovely. There are no tasks I have to turn down. I always play my other chars until I have to get healed. I realize I can't heal myself so I start playing Rogane again.

Yeah, the versatility is what makes them great. Athgo uses boneshatter mostly and does pretty well in OTF at 87 with that. Wish I could kill the damn constructs though...

Rangers win, I think. Bards are fugged early on with mana issues, pures are boring early and even mid levels. Squares are fun early on, but will face increasing difficulty. Paladins are too streched for points, which leaves rangers as all around awesome from start to cap, and beyond.

A shame Rangers do not have a low level damage spell. Or a means to unstun themselves like other semis.

I am 90 and use wither a lot since I don't rely on my mana to kill. CS is a bit low as I keep myself 1 spell under 2x so I keep redux, but I still am able to ward anything except the seers. Constructs also basically explode when you are able to bone shatter em.

Pity companions weren't more useful in combat. If they made them more effective when the ranger was stunned it wouldn't be too big an issue.

Sorcerer!

We have awesome fluff, and all of Elanthia's epic villains are card carrying members. So there might be a minor issue or two in the translation of our epic fluff into mechanical win, but I hear they are working on this RSN.

Clerics are generic. Even with all the dev that was poured into them they are still amazingly "meh". Rogues lack the ability to handle swarms without turning themselves into a semi, and decent stun defense. Bottom line, if you're thinking about playing a Cleric, play an Empath instead. If you're thinking about playing a Rogue, play a Warrior/Paladin/Bard/Ranger instead.

But I don't have anything else, and Razurn isn't selling his mindblowingly awesome level 30 whatever. :(

The one thing I do like about my rogue is that as a locksmith build, I can just laze about town and do guild stuff and BS with other locksmiths and customers. You can actually have brief conversations with people, since lockpicking takes longer than, say, healing. But it is super easy to get wtfswarmpwned if I'm caught in the open with more than two critters.

But I still voted Rogue, so nyah!

Do these poll results mean that if you only play a cleric and a rogue, you are missing out on all the fun of Gemstone? No, it just means that most people only have pocket raisers and pickers and so they don't really get to experience the profession.

Before the change to ambush, clerics were one of the best professions to play.

I disagree with Evarin about the profession being generic.

My warriors are the ones I get hooked on and come back to. I enjoy complex roleplay with an empath the most though.

Bard is the one I have always wanted to get real deep into. I like the idea of a crazy homicidal hobo bard. I've tried it twice but I guess I always get tripped up on the mechanics. :-/

Back when Clerics could swing like Empaths can now, I would say you've a point. Now, if you want a swinging pure, I would put clerics only ahead of sorcerers in terms of mutant builds. Other than that, they have nothing which really lends themselves towards being all that special. If you're saying the main strength of a rogue lies in lockpicking, that's fine, but it certainly wont be everyone's cup of tea to go that route. Being able to open your own boxes can be done by other professions, including warriors. They've only an edge in speed in that regard, not exclusivity.

Am I saying they are bad classes? No, just "meh"

I love playing a rogue. I have since I rolled one. Mostly because of the combat style. I love stalking around, ambushing body parts, going for clean kills, wielding dual daggers. I love it even more with Evade Mastery. I also can't imagine not being able to pick all my own boxes after a hunt; removing the drudgery of the constant trips to Larton is worth the TPs to me. (I don't know if anyone's ever done the math, but I figure saving the coins on Larton has to be worth at least as much as skinning.)

And post-cap, I love being able to round out my skills. I know rogues don't clean up the way other classes do, but they certainly aren't weaklings and are among the most capable if properly trained and equipped.

Right now I am hunting my bard and paladin up through the levels. They are a lot of fun, and the paladin is quite powerful. There certainly are a lot of training milestones to look forward to.

I'd have to disagree on the Cleric issue as well Evarin. A Post cap Cleric's fun a heck to play IMO, cannot really speak on the lower levels as I've not been a cleric there since GSIII.

Raising myself upto 3x a day is pretty sweet, Chrisims have changed a cleric's usefulness even more. Nexus has been a sweet change. Wizard/Cleric team stomps on shit from the Old town to the Scatter.

For end game picking you will need a 3x trained Rogue however for most all traped boxes. Other professions training wont cut it past 90's or so for locks and traps.

I always felt the opposite. I felt that I had to fall in line as a ranger due to lack of tps, however I've trained my paladin a few different ways and haven't any issues hunting with him.

I still like playing Rogues the best. Of course I prefer picking locks.. and pockets over sheer killing power (which my Paladin has in abundance)

Clerics are pretty meh - kind of hard to disagree with it. Like rogues, clerics have been labeled the swiss army knives in gemstone by a number of GMs - plenty of tricks, but master of a few. However, the possibilities for interesting builds (and a reason to play) at higher levels and post-cap decreases in viability for clerics, while rogues can redefine themselves as pseudo-semis.

Clerics and rogues hunt just fine at cap. However, the 'meh' factor lies in what you can do with training points to keep things interesting, and clerics don't have much in the way of other interesting, viable builds at cap. At lower levels though, the lower TP training costs can makes interesting builds possible and viable, and is probably why Estild didn't see fit to change the low ceiling after cap for clerics.

AKOE!

Rangers! I can shoot them with a bow, use maneuvers, spells, or kick them in the head with Voln Fu. If I get really bored I can use 608 and fire from hiding. Not to mention our guild is the best :)

I'm just glad Sorcerers have been picking up some steam. I mean come on, they are the most powerful in the game no doubt. And would you want to mess with them at their best? I don't think so....
