I've never brought any of my characters into Bonespear, but I'm thinking of heading there for a few levels. KP's got most of the info on what to expect, but not particularly helpful when it comes to disarm and weapon loss.

What should I look out for in Bonespear generally, and what's the disarm mechanic in particular? Is it maneuver-based? Can shields get lost too? How can I get them back? I assume it's just find and kill the critter that took them, but can they get lost into the ether?

Depending on your character, I'd suggest avoiding eidolons at the beginning. Dybbuks and waerns are corporeal undead and can be stunned and crit killed. They were like candy when I was going through.

Disarming is done by waerns. They will grab your hand in their jaws and shake violently. In addition to guaranteed RT and possible disarming (doesn't happen every time), it will also hurt your hand so you might not be able to pick up your weapon even if you do find it. It is maneuver based, but not on the BCS that I'm aware of. If you are disarmed, the weapon will drop to the ground. Waerns don't carry items, so they won't pick them up, but others might.

Eidolons are noncorporeal undead, so they're unstunnable and otherwise unable to be crit killed. They sucked a ton of mana from my casters so I avoided them.

Dybbuks don't often do much aside from stand there and swing. I can't even think of anything else they would do off-hand, though I often stunned them before they could do anything.

That's great info, thanks. I'll be going in there with a cleric who carries a shield in his left hand; can the shield be disarmed too? Seems like the answer is probably yes, but figured I'd ask.

The answer is no, have fun.

If you're going as a cleric, I'd suggest bringing a spirit servant as an insurance policy. If you do get disarmed, the spirit will pick it up so nothing else will get it.

Eidolons can cast a mean version of itchy curse, which can make you drop things. I usualy ran to the safe area on the second floor (until I learned beseech) to wait it out.

Yep, just reiterating points that have been made but they are important to know...

2 of the 3 critters can cause item loss. Waerns do so by a maneuver lunging and grabbing at your hand. Eidolons do so by cursing and they are mid 50's with good CS, almost 10 levels above the other creatures there. So if you are trying to uphunt dybuuks and waerns be aware of the Eidolons.

The tower also shakes and knocks you down with RT so that might matter for some builds.

There is a safe node in the area, its on the maps. The first few rooms after you climb in but before you enter the tower.. they are non magic rooms.

Use symbol of holiness on Eidolons initially if they are giving you problems. Works pretty well.

I think with the waern move you hold onto it even with the severed hand. Kinda weird and maybe shouldn't be depended on. The eidolon itchy curse will make you drop it.

Nope, waerns can make you drop it, and yes, shields can be lost too.

Also let folks know on the amulet where you are hunting and if you lose something and need help.
