My favourite aspect about the PC (other than the Gemstone factor, of course), is that you can ask about anything and you'll get a decent reply.
I bought my wife a digital camera last year on Black Friday -- $160, marked down to $85. It's a piece of rubbish. It takes literally 5 seconds to take a picture once you push the button.
I'm looking for a digital camera that takes fast pictures. Rapid pictures, even. My mum-in-law (lawyer) bought her daughter a camera last year for Christmas that snapped literally 5 pictures in 3 seconds. I e-mailed her to ask what it was, and she replied with this:
"my camera is a cannon EOS rebel, it's somewhere around $500+ i think.
however, any d-SLR camera (thats what those big cameras are called with big lenses) will take fast pictures, and i think nikon or other brands might make cheaper ones."
I don't know what that means, admittedly. I'm not camera savvy.
My sister-in-law, however, who is much poorer, got a cheaper camera for about $150. She says it's a... sony cyber-shot dsc-h10.
I think I'm willing to pay up to $500, but I would prefer within the $200-350 range.
Any advice out there? Any sales on Black Friday that you've seen that can help me out? I just want a camera that takes fast pictures.

I was hoping this was a thread about how you needed some help trying to use your digi cam to get pics of your womans' boobs.
Way to not deliver.
just about all newer digi cames have a multishot function
hell my $80 olympus has it
It is prob the autofocus that is takingso long to take the picture, get one with a good focus and you can snap a pic quik

You actually want to check shutter delay. You can sometimes reduce to crappy 640/480 and get it quicker though.

Well, her bra size is 36-D, I think, but her boobs are bound to get bigger because she's pregnant again. I will see what I can do. I don't think I have any current boob pictures, but I'll check.

This is the best I could find within a short period of time.
This was our honeymoon in Mexico.

haha, you win sir.
Now I have to go research camera stats. fuck.
My camera is nice, but it doesnt take super-fast pictures. It's definitely not bad, but it's not instant click/snap.

I had a casio exlim for a number of years that was quite fast. I really enjoyed that camera. Beat the shit out of it, too.

If you're not worried about super-high quality, just upgrade her cellphone. There's some pretty damn good cameras for the average person included on them.

It doesn't sound like you need an SLR camera so stick with a decent model point and shoot. My current recommendation if you want decent zoom is the Panasonic Lumix. 18x optic zoom and the megapixels and all that jazz are up to par. Has a rapid fire feature, which under decent light will shoot 3 pics a second or so. It's what I currently carry in the field for taking pictures of birds and shit.
Here are some pics highlighting the zoom:
http://hphotos-snc1.fbcdn.net/hs196.snc1/6613_132846889592_824394592_2146107_2669388_n.jpg

and it does a decent job for macro pics as well.

I think I spent about 275-300 for it, but be wary of scammers if buying online.

Ultra zoom non SLRs are usually a pretty good deal. Handy for everything except dancing around in a club.

So I looked at Black Friday Ads, and Best Buy has some good sales.
This is for $299, originally $399:
Nikon - Coolpix 12.1-Megapixel Digital Camera - Black - P90
I looked at all the reviews, and it sounded amazing. It has like a 24x zoom, and I saw previews on youtube of it in action and it was AMAZING. I was set on buying it. Then, of course, I read a review where it said you'd be so frustrated with how long it takes to take a picture, and I said, "MOTHER FUCK". This is not what I want.
So, I guess I'll buy a DSLR. Best Buy has two for sale, and now I'm torn. They are both $500, and everywhere I look I see a comparison between the two. One is ORIGINALLY $550, but on sale for $500.
They are:
Nikon - 10.2-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black - D3000
and the:
Canon EOS Rebel XS Digital SLR - 10.1 MP
The Nikon is the normally $550, but they seem to have about the same specs.
Any DSLR camera will take instant snaps, right? I'm set with either of these? Does anyone have an opinion on which may be better for the same price?

If you're now set on the DSLR (so jealous!), go with the Nikon. Earlier this year the husband and I were looking for a new camera that would start up fast and take pics lightning fast, to keep up with the new baby, and we were really impressed with the Nikon the camera shop manager showed us (I think it's the same model you've just mentioned, pricing sounds about right).
You may also want to look at the Nikon Coolpix point-and-shoot models. We'd seriously looked at a higher end one of those; start-up time was almost instant, and we were able to take a number of pics very quickly. My husband ended up getting me a Canon EOS for our anniversary at the end of March, and I rarely miss shots 'cause I'm waiting for the previous one to process.
If you're having a slow process time, do be sure to check your memory card, too. For some reason, we had one card that had some issue where it would take forever to save the pic, but another card from the exact same manufacturer and the exact same size had no problem; hubby ended up trashing the slower one, or maybe he uses it for file back-up when he's fixing up computers.
If you can this week, see if you can go into an actual camera store (you know, a place with employees who have a fucking clue) and take a good look at the models. If you can talk to someone who knows their stuff, you can at least see what models will fit your need and then you can go comparison shop.

Well, did I ever luck out.
Wal-Mart is running (currently, as we speak) a pre-black Friday online special, and the camera I wanted was available for the same price, $499.
Referring to the Nikon DSLR camera. That's the same price as Best Buy had it. I was dreading having to go at 3:00 a.m. to Best Buy just to get the camera when they would probably have lines starting Thanksgiving night.
Here's the link if anyone is interested:

So, I read this:
"Like all D-SLRs, there's no memory card in the D3000's box, so you'll need to pick one up if you don't have one already. The camera supports both SD and SDHC memory cards, and I'd recommend starting out with a 2GB card. It's definitely worth spending a little more for a high speed card when you're using a digital SLR."
I was aware it didn't come with a memory card already, but I didn't think researching which to get would be this tough. I can't find, for the life of me, what kind of card to get for this Nikon D3000. Can anyone find me one of these "high speed cards" and the price of it?

Nikons will use any SD you throw at them. The higher classes are faster cards -- class 2 = 2 MB/sec transfer up to class 45 = 45 MB/sec transfer.

Nikon make great cameras. Dont know huge amounts about the d3000 but I have a d80 and it is great. Use it for alsorts from portraits, to wildlife, scenery and sports. Deals with them no problem. Their cameras are much of a muchness, so you can be happy that you are getting a decent piece of kit.
As Bob has said, any SD card will do.
At some point you might want to look at a new lens, but that one is a fine one for starters.

That's the major problem with SLR's, you can wind up dropping a lot of cash since it's so easy to upgrade.

Can someone (or Bob, if you read this), go to this link and scroll down just slightly until you see "DIGITAL MEDIA" where it shows 4 memory cards, and tell me which would be the best buy for my DSLR camera?

Of the four you referenced, two are microSD cards, and one is a memory stick, neither of which you are going to want. The SD card in there is 8G, just make sure the camera you choose is able to handle a card that large. I know that many of them have limitations on that...so just make sure. Any reputable camera dealer will be able to tell you what that limit may be, or it will be listed in the manual for the camera, itself. For example, my manual for the Nikon D80 says it will only support up to a 4G card...so buying an 8G card for it would not work. (If anyone has actually DONE this, and it worked, let me know! It may be that the camera itself was out before 8G cards were, but my camera guy did tell me that it would not support an 8G card).
Good luck with your purchase!
I also have the Nikon D80 as well as the Nikon S710. I, personally, HIGHLY recommend Nikon.
