Do I need to be taught a recipe before I can use it for guild reps?

currenly the only recipes I've been taught are Tincture or tkaro(simmer) and tincture of acantha(boil)

I'd like to use another recipe for my simmer reps because i'm finding it hard to find tkaro root.

Tkaro root can be bought in the shop on 4 winds if you have access.
