Xolean is a creep

So, I received this letter from a fellow member in Aspis the other day and I may be wrong, but it makes Xolean look like a creep in my eyes...

"I was quite distressed to learn yesterday that Xolean's player has been using Taylir again. In one of my many guises, I had heated words with him and tried to explain to him how ghoulish his behavior was and how people who knew and loved Daana were distressed that her "body" was walking around while she was dead.

Perhaps I am overreacting. I don't know. I have no objectivity in the matter.

He offered to transfer the account to me for $600 USD, which he said could be sent to him via Paypal. I asked him to just transfer Taylir over to me, and he pretty much said she was the only useful character on the account and it was all or nothing.

I can't afford $600, and I don't know anyone who can... but if I had it, I
would definitely use it to get Taylir out of his hands.

I was thinking: I can afford $50. If 11 other people can come up with $50,
that's $600. If 22 other people could come up with $25, that's $600.

If anyone else is interested, I would like to set up a paypal account for the
exclusive use of purchasing the account from Xolean's player.

Paypal has a record of swiftly overturning payment if terms are not met.

Taylir (and if Sybryna is still on the account, her as well), would be retired
with dignity. Any other characters on the account would be liquidated, and
whatever money is earned from that would be returned to the contributers.

I know it is close to the holidays, and this year has been especially difficult
for MANY of us. Again, I recognize that I have no objectivity in this regard,
which is why I am posting here before actually creating the paypal account. I
welcome whatever feedback is offered.

A friend of mine contacted Simu about the issue and their response was pretty much that they can't won't do anything since Daana transfered ownership over a year ago.

Now I know characters are bought and sold all the time, but really, wanting $600 for a dead person's character? WTF? Am I the only one that thinks that is a jackass move? More importantly, who in their right mind wants to profit off a dead friend?

In Xolean's defense, I think he has been paying for Taylir for many years. He should have the right to use her.

At least that was my understanding from what he had previously stated when Dana first passed away.

From what I understood Tay Shared her account password and then passed away. Since he had the password he had control.

She was playing Tay up until she died and its sad to see her logging in.

On one hand, you have a character, just like any other, a commodity to some.

On the other hand, you guys are attached to the original controller of that character, and a specific name (Taylir).


Situations like this make me wish a name change was possible in GS.

I'm not a member of Aspis on any character, but I remember Taylir. Continuing to play the character this long after Daana's death, and flaunting it in the faces of people who knew her well and are reminded of her death by your actions is a shitty thing to do, Xolean. (Not that he'll ever read this, I'm sure.)

I think it'd be nice if more people kept in mind that there are real, living people on the other side of the screen and put a little more thought into their actions, but I think that'd be asking too much most days.

Liquidating all of her stuff on the amunet was probably not a sensitive way to go about things, but he certainly has a right to play the character as long as he is going to remain true to the RP that the original player created. At the very least, someone should tell him about silent log in and log out.

I dunno, if he bought the toon, or shared the account with Taylir's player, he is, in effect, the toon's player. The OP suggests that Taylir's original player transferred the ownership of the account over to him, which suggests either A) she actually transferred it to him, B) she trusted him enough with security question answers, or C) she sold it to him. In any case, it's his character to play with.

I knew Taylir from the mentors, and she was very nice, but seeing her character in game is not gonna be like "OMG IT'S DAANA I'M SO UPSET." My impressions of players tend to be wholly separate from that of their characters, and I think that should be the norm for most. It's people who'd be upset at seeing the character Taylir log on that probably take things OOC all the time and then warn interact.

That's a vast generalization, and I'm sticking to it.
