Battering

What's with battering? Is this a useful skill? What if there's a trap on the box that you're bashing, does the skill go right through it?

I'm thinking of training in this especially because Tackle is unreasonable difficult with so few practicing partners about.

It's essentially useless. Save it for one of your last skills. Bashing does not trump traps, although you can bash spring traps without risk.

To effectively batter boxes, you have to learn disarm and be fluent in how traps work, etc, or have someone else do that part of it for you. Batter is one of those things that is occasionally very handy, but not as often as it should be.

One of the problems is that, the higher level you get, the longer it takes to batter boxes open, because much of the strength is based on the lock instead of the box. This is a little less so now than it used to be, but it's still a pain to bash more than a few boxes. The powers that be want locksmiths opening boxes, so they've made sure batter isn't an effective substitute for a good locksmith.

Yep. Pain in the ass. Has to be a wooden box. Roundtime is about double.
