View Full Version : Disturbing Dreams and Nightmares

I've been having really scary dreams lately.
The first one was about a house at the place I used to work, Forest Highlands in Flagstaff. This is the second time I've dreamed about this house (same dream, actually). In the dream I'm housesitting there - which is something I did at FH a lot, just never in that particular house - and there's like a stairway that I figure is to a wine cellar, so I go to check it out. It's actually an uber-long cement tunnel into thsi wickedly scary and totally archetypal satanic chamber. The first time I had this dream, I totally beat it out of that house. THIS time, there was a guy in there - this random guy from one of my soc classes in college who had a wooden arm - and he was dying. So I helped him out and we left.
Then last night I had a dream that I was being forced to participate in some kind of scary thing where if someone is murdered and you bring them back to life, they'll become some kind of scary demon or something. So there were these people in my house making sure I wouldn't run away and that I would help them do this, and I got tired of it and started beating the shit out of one of them with stuff from my kitchen. First she turned into this girl I knew in HS, then, the more I kept kicking her ass, she kept getting younger, eventually turning into a little asian boy.
WTF.
I've had weird dreams before, but for some reason these kind of linger after I wake up and continue to faintly disturb me.
Again, WTF.
-K, wondering... WTF.

Sometimes I wish i could remeber my dreams .. but then I read threads like this one and I'm glad I wake up and never remeber the night before.

Dreams are dumb.
I had a dream that this guy was breaking into my house and I was like, "I am so scared." And there was this old guy in my house for no reason. And so the first guy was like, "Time 2 killz j00 w/knifez." And I threw a bottle of vodka at him or something.. and he slipped and dropped his knifez, and I picked them up and threw them at him one at a time and they all stuck in him and he took them out and was like, "Hahahahahaha you suck." Then I woke up.

I've had dreams that were at the same place but with different things happening.. It was a while ago, but if I remember I had the same one twice in a row, then a few days later, then a month etc. I had it again like a year later, it was weird as hell. Haven't had the same one in a while though.

Analyzing dreams give mostly the person's personality, knew that?
Be careful with telling your dreams, you'd be surprised how some people are good with analyzing.
I dream mostly of humans
So, Spun, what do you have against little asian boys? j/k
I have strange dreams too. Amazing technicolor ones. Scary ones, funny ones, downright strange ones... my husband says I should write them all down and make stories out of them. My daughter has seemed to inherit this also. She's had some whoppers too.
I'll see if I can think of a good one and post it. Got to run for now.

And then again, some people say that the only people who have meaningful treams are the people who are truly psychotic. Knew that?
I guess that means your personality is human. Who would've guessed!?

No i didn't knew that. I don't believe that it's true, though, my vomit friend.
I can easily notice when I'm feeling nervous just examining my dreams, am I psychotic...? I don't think so:).
Dreams rock, seriously, I wish I'll remember them for the rest of my life.

Actually my biggest nightmares are the ones I have about Zombies which is rather hilarious, the first horror movie I ever seen when I was 5. It was one of the Friday the 13th's it was in 3-d lol.
The dreams I have with zombies though they always end the same way. I'll be like completely kicking their ass, same type of deal just usually different places. All of a sudden someone that I care very much for will come up to me but they'll be a zombie and its either like I have to kill them or be eaten. Thing is its like my body never reacts. They are someone I love and care for I always drop whatever I'm using and let them bite me. I always wake up right before they bite into my skull or my neck though. They are usually very vivid as well. Can feel, smell and taste like its real thats partly what makes it so scary I think. Silly I know especially for someone who is taking parapsychology but really its only those kind of dreams that bother me more than anything else.

My dreams lately have been of my Mom. They are really real, and I hate them because when I wake up I think she's alive for a few minutes, and then it hits me again. :(

I hate getting in fights in my dreams because whenever i swing at the person/thing it always flips to slow motion mode, and then when i finaly hit the person its like i just tapped them, and that happens EVERY time i get in a fight in a dream...ever since i can remember.

Anyone who has taken a decent amount of psychology knows that X is full of shit.
Freud had a lot of good theories and ideas... but when it comes to dreams it's one of the most unreliable ways to psychoanalize someone. There are way too many ways to inerpret it and no one, especially X, can be the judge on which is the right interpretation.
To stay on topic, I'm a lucid dreamer. I dream what I want, manipulate the dream how I want... most of the time anyway. Only when I go to sleep exhausted do I lose control over them usually.

It's very common to dream about something you think about often or are worried/concerned about currently. There's nothing to interpret.

I have some very, very fucked up dreams. I'll offer one as an example.
This dream was a recurring nightmare that I had after a bad trip (the only bad trip I ever had) where I watched Pink Floyd's "The Wall". As you know, one of the best scenes in the movie is when the kids are going off the conveyer belt into the meat grinder.
Anyways, the dream opens with me working in a factory, in front of a conveyer belt. Passing in front of me are severed heads - people I know, people I've met once, people I know of, people I have no fucking idea who they are.
I have two stamps, one is marked "Heaven", one is marked "Hell".
I mark every head as it comes by with "Heaven" and the head goes "offstage" to the left. I keep on doing this for an indeterminate amount of time.
Flash forward to me driving home from this job. I'm driving on a long, straight road through a completely flat desert. It's twilight, or so. I look to the right, and I see my own head sitting on the passenger seat (while I have my head on my own shoulders as well). It has "Hell" stamped on the forehead.
The head turns to me, and says, "Turn Left."
I don't question at all, I just turn left towards the desert. The sands part in front of my wheels, to reveal a road. I'm driving for no more than 30 seconds in the desert, when suddenly a huge mouth opens up in the sand and I drive down into Hell, at which point the dream ends. Think Aladdin, but not a lion's head, just a giant mouth.
I had the same dream pretty regularily, unchanging, for about a year. I still have it occasionally, but I haven't had it in a year or so.
-TheE-
P.S. All the dreams I have that I remember, are eschatological in nature.

Yah, almost all the dreams I remember tend to be the nightmares.
I get killed alot or almost so in them...alot of the normal stuff...being chased, running. Streotypical stuff I think.
I also remember some of the more...interesting sexual dreams but sadly they tend to be much more rare.

A cool dream I had was I beat the shit out of a bunch of Martians who were like, "WE INVADE EARTH STARTING FIVE MINUTES AGO." They were blue. I was uber.
All my other good dreams, as stated above, were about Rachel. The ones I can remember, anyway.
TheEschaton
03-10-2004, 05:46 PM
I had another one that was rather philosophical in nature.
I was falling down a bottomless pit. Cliched, I know.
However, the twist was that the sides of the pit were spiked, with the spikes slanted up. The philosophical point of the dream, I'm falling down the pit, and asking myself, "Should I just fall for all of eternity....or end it now by falling on the spikes?"
Painless eternity, or a second of pain.
I never reach a conclusion before I wake up.
Yes, I know I'm fucked up. And now that I think about it, this dream is not eschatological.

In one me and my girlfriend are part of a vampire cult and we do something to piss off everyone. We are running through a huge mansion and they are all chasing us. The only real defense is we can levitate but its very hard to do. You have to concentrate and stuff and time it perfectly. So it goes on and on like that for a long time then for some reason at the end me and my girlfriend are living in a school bus and renting out video games to the other vampires.
The other one i had a lot when i was younger was i was in a town where everyone else was crazy and the only weapon i had was a fork to throw at the crazy people. Then it "upgraded" to a fork gun, then an automatic fork gun and so on and so forth. At the end i have a wicked fast fork gun and im shooting a big line of crazy people and as they fall more and more crazy people step up to stand where the last one fell.
These were my two favorite of my wtf dreams and i can only dream of having even wackier ones some day. To me they are entertaining and i enjoy them.

lol, you drop acid E? Or are you talking about shrooms or peyote or something? Not really a wonder why you have weird dreams then is it? That shit stays with you for a while, acid does at least.
When I was like 8 I would have dreams of Robocop coming up my stairs, I could hear his heavy feet and machine sound stomping slowly on each step.. He'd come in my room, sometimes find me hiding, or sometimes scan the room and leave without seeing me. It was like hide and seek, except when he found me he broke my neck.

<<I was falling down a bottomless pit.>>
Instead of wondering whether to die or not, I wonder if this pit were through the center of the Earth, whether or not I'd fall until I hit the Earth's center of gravity, where I was held forever, unable to fall or rise because of gravity.
Dying would be a better option, though.

I'm saying there aren't spikes in the wall.
And no, in theory, you'd implode. The pressure would be too great. Assuming you don't implode, that theory may be true. But I'm not using spikes.

Every single night. I mean EVERY night. I dream my house is filled with spiders and spider webs. Everywhere I look. Big ones, little ones, even giant ones. Spiders spiders spiders.
And my second dream is always about bathrooms and needing to go pee. The toilets are always out in the open in a public place so I hold it cus I dont want people to see me pee! Or the toilets are in a regular public bathroom but they arent in stalls. Just surrounded by toilets, needing to pee. Sometimes I say fuck it and pull down my undies and sit down, but can't cus of stage fright, cuz there are too many people in the bathroom.
I have other dreams too, but those two I have every single damn night. Maybe I have been cursed?

The best dreams, by far, are fever dreams, but unfortunately I'm way too sick to remember them. I've found a good simulation can be attained by forcing oneself back to sleep after waking up (I threaten myself with a lighter) and boom, feveresque dream. What pisses me off is I remember it really really kickass well for like 15 seconds, so I figure ok I can think of other stuff HAHA SUX0R U FORGOT IT NOW!!
So I can't remember any of my good ones. I imagine it's similar to smoking pot, where you have really great-sounding ideas that are really really not to anyone who's not high. I didn't smoke pot (really) but I knew a bunch of potheads, and man did they ever do that a lot.
Before I perfected my system, however, I had recurring nightmares of a body-less dog that would hide in a picnic basket (I can still remember the cloth part of it, it was like red and white and checkery stripes) and rip off parts of me. That was no fun. Especially because everyone would leave as the food started to run out and no one would help me WTF I've got a freaking dog head attacking me and I'm 7 years old you'd think someone would give me a knife or something.

Acid certainly doesn't make you smarter, friends and family. ;)
And I wrote my best stuff Latrin, when smoking pot! My friends and I swore to write down the conversations we had one night, after smoking up.
Most of it was unintelligble the next morning, the one story we could piece together involved purple triangles riding on the backs of apes, going over Niagara Falls and exploding into paint on the rocks below.
I *have* to think that's my friend Mike, for the underlying homophobia and racism.

The one time I ever tried hydroponics I swore I'd never do it again. Next morning sucked a lot, but my dreams made me wonder what the hell was wrong with me. I don't remember all the details, but it involved finding out I was Batman, chasing the Joker around for several hours, discovering I could talk to dead people (Ho Chi Minh), Buddha, and God, flying up the sky through the clouds to meet with God only to find myself saying, "I finally figured it out. You're not God, you're the Joker," and ripped of his mask. Then waking up having no fucking clue where I was.
Aside from that, every time I have a lucid dream where I have any modicum of control over what I do, I always wake up moments after I'm first aware.
Have you ever noticed how amazing your mind is? It can put together the most complex dreams, like if there's a newspaper on the table in your dreams your mind conjures up articles and shit for it...once in high school after studying for a Neurobiology exam I read a (phony) article on the role of the hippocampus in long term potentiation.

The first time I got high (IE, the second time I smoked) was a doozy.
My best friend's name is Michael, so I was raving about how I was Satan, and I was gonna beat him (he represented St. Michael the Archangel) this time, and drag him down into hell with me.
Like I said, I've got a very eschatological mindset. I am an INTJ, after all.

The WORST dream I ever had was about seven years ago.
I was still living at my parents house and I had a dream that I was doing laundry. There were clothes in the dryer and I could hear this really loud clunking sound. It was like someone had thrown their shoe in there with the clothes.
So, I open it and start pulling clothing out and they are covered with blood. I keep pulling the rest of the clothes out and one of the articles is a bedsheet, with a dead baby tangled up in it. Its obviously dead and covered in blood and I start screaming and crying. I woke up in hysterics and must have been crying before I was even "awake" because my face was soaking wet.
Naturally I ran down the hall and bawled my eyes out to my mom.
Lately, my dreams have been um..rather erotic. So they boyfriend can't complain.;)

Well, thanks Chelle, now I know what I will be dreaming about tonight.
By the way, I had a dream where I had a fight with my best friend and I was still mad at her when she called later that day. She was all like 'what is your problem'

I have the same problem with waking up, Edaarin. Either that, or every time I try to control something in the dream, I just prolong it. The scary ritual-ish/ass-kicking dream I had this morning lasted for at least 20 minutes, in my estimation. At least, it seemed like a long time.
Sometimes I have really inappropriate erotic dreams, too, like doing stuff with people I would NEVER do stuff with (like my brother in law). I wake up feeling oh-so-disgusted.
And then there's my flying dreams. I'm sure a lot of people dream about flying, but my flying is weird. When I do it I have to take a running start, leap into the air, and then push and kick almost like you do when you're at the bottom of the pool and swimming to the surface. Weird.

A lot of times I realize I am dreaming, sometimes once that happens it starts being like a movie where I watch myself in the dream, other times I'm me but can't change whats going on, and teh best of times I end up controlling the dream.

I had a dream (about six years after hearing about the continental shelf) where I was in the ocean and I got caught in the undertow or something and I was sucked past the gradual slope into the steep part, which of course was at an angle of about 89º, so I couldn't climb back up, and it was all empty and stuff, probably because I'm afraid of seaweed, and I drowned. But I didn't open my mouth or nothing, and I think I was commiting suicide, because I only tried to jump once (Lord knows why I didn't try to swim) and then I was like "Oh well, I tried, better just relax" and my lungs hurt. What kind of bothers me is the sensation was painful but interesting, and I'm curious as to what it actually feels like. Not that I'll going to go buy some leaded Reeboks or anything, but it's always nagging at me.
I used to think it was strange, but after listening to your guys' pothead extravaganzas, I feel much better. :) Thanx!!
