Anyone have any suggestions for stuff to do in the area that doesn't include Colonial Williamsburg or Busch Gardens?

Or maybe some basket weaving classes? Glass blowing? Pottery?

Yes, but sometimes people have actually been to places and have suggestions of things that might not show up on the first few pages of google results.

Did you guys find anything worthwhile down there? I just remembered there's a pretty kickass steak place in Hampton. Steak and Ale or something like that.

If it's a Steak and Ale like what are around Indy I wouldn't call it "kick ass" it's alright but it's not worth a special trip.

Went to a bunch of different places. My good friend runs the cafe at Anderson's Home & Garden so of course we ate there. On Saturday night we went to Kelly's and another bar that I can't remember, but it had a decent couple of bands playing. Both places were incredibly cheap compared to DC ($2 beers). My friend made dinner on Sat. night so we didn't get out anywhere for that.
In Williamsburg we ate at The Grill at Colonial Heritage. I grabbed a coupon from restaurants.com the day before and had a really nice lunch for about $20 for both of us. I remembered how shitty the food was in and around the Prime Outlets so I did some research on Friday. It was across the street from a Go-Kart place that we didn't have time to check out, but my friend said he heard it was good, for what it's worth. I spent 5 hours at the outlets, so that's where Sat. afternoon went.
We also went to the Virginia Air & Space Center in Hampton. It was mostly outdated. On the model timeline of aircraft/boats, the most recent one was from 1990 and it was a hot air balloon. The best part was the game where you try to land the shuttle. Don't bother with the mars mission simulator, it's five minutes that actually feels like the 3 months it takes to get to mars.

It certainly isn't the best I've ever gone to but in that specific part of VA it is. The only place I liked more was a smokehouse inside Busch Gardens, Williamsburg.

I know that place, right outside one of the main entrances to Langley. I lived in Hampton for almost 4 years and I don't recall ever seeing any people at that place, I thought it was closed down.

I got really pissed off at the Williamsburg Busch Gardens. The Tampa one kicks so much ass, but there was only one good ride at Wmsbrg (Apollo's Chariot).

The rides there are pretty dull. The only thing worthwhile there is smokehouse and the german beer.
Kings Dominion further up north has much better roller coasters, especially the the volcano one that launches you straight up into the air!

yeah, when I'm paying $50 or whatever to get into an amusement park, I want some good rides, not smoked meat that I have to pay more money for.

Don't they offer cheaper passes if you don't go on any rides? I didn't know it was that expensive, always got in free cause I was in the air force.

This is one of my favorite places to take clients. It's not a national chain, has a varied menu, the food is excellent, and the service is (usually) great. I liked it better when it was smaller and less well known. We probably take customers to lunch there at least twice a month.

That's seriously awesome. It's going to get bigger, they're building a large outdoor patio for it in the renovations. Besides the food, I love the tea selection, they give the good stuff.
