So apparently its not okay for an ex-GM to participate in an auction he paid an extra fee for but its okay for a current GM to have their player character digging at EG (with chances to obtain rare item drops).

Apples and oranges? Or Golden Delicious and Granny Smith?

I'm pretty sure that participation doesn't sum up the issue at all. And since the only party who is allowed to provide details has asked that we just let it go, I'm going to respect that and keep my speculation to myself.
