View Full Version : Ebon Gate Wheel and Deal

In the tradition of the CCF thread, people might use this one to post what they're looking for and what they'll pay or trade for it.
Personally, I'm not going to the auction (who the heck put it on Halloween?), but I'd buy or trade for these pieces below. If you win them at the auction, just let me know. We'll work something out.
I want a set of the Tonis gloves and boots. Everything else is secondary.
I have for trade:
2. 8x spiked/acid flaring scripted hauberk, 14lbs
8. 7x dcw short sword that morphs into a cane
9. 7x studded leathers
10. 7x fulls
15. A lot of coins, and other random stuff

I'm not going either but I'm damn interested in the GoS lance. The TD boosting half plate as well :)
For the moment, I am just going to stick to Ebon's Gate.
I'd like the Cloak of Shadows. If you win it, I'd be willing to buy it directly from you. I am also willing to work out a deal -- within reason -- where I can try to win an item in the Silver auction for you.

With this many great items I can see a lot of deals going on to try to secure things.
Great idea Briar to have a thread on who is looking for what. If you want x or someone else does... Hell they could toss you xxxx item or xxxx coins so you could get it and get xxxx handling fee.
Kinda leaves it to who you can trust in some situations but most know who is trustworthy from experience by now... or at least I hope so.

I just got done moving cross country and I will be attending on a friends account probably but....
I will pay/trade stupidly well for the following items:
a black rolaren war hammer, Guardians of the Sunfist weapon
an ethereal string (if this is the item to make a weapon a returner)
a forest green soft leather pouch, pet
I have to offer:
6x sanct returning handaxe
4x lightning flaring handaxe bandolier
And lots of cash/coins, I am more than willing to work out any deals necessary!!!!!!

I'm interested in silvers, cash or combo of both...if you PM me how much an item is worth to you and it's a token item I can toss mine in, hope I'm lucky and sell it to you...if it's a silver auction item, lets talk and see what you feel comfortable doing.

Out of curiosity, who is actually intending to (try to) acquire the mobile properties?
Interested in:
Tonis boots
GoS Lance
Mist Harbor cottage
Thurfel's Ward cloak
fixstat potion
GoS runestaff
I don't have much in the way of toys. In theory, I might part with my altered FGB, but mostly I've just got coin (and perhaps whatever I manage to win) to trade.

As much as I like my flamberge, I really don't see a huge "Wow" factor with most coraesine weapons. Granted it would likely be better for someone who swings alot in the open, a berserker and such....I just don't really see how people like them as much as they do.
Hell, I hardly use the special features of mine, and would probably easily trade it for a different THW if I could.

I was a little interested in the trollslayer bastard sword until I found out it doesn't work against grimswarm. :(
Which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Grim trolls act like trolls in every other sense (fire vulnerability, regen). So do the orcs and giants. Is there seriously no "type" field for monsters that the weapon could reference?
tonis boots

Sometimes nothing. Other times they get recycled into the next auction.
Heck sometimes they recycle other items to put into the auction. Belnia and I have an item that was released three times last year at an event and now it's in the auction. When we got them they were supposed to be limited to just the event.

I'm not sure if casting the spell while wearing it influences charge depletion, but, if so, a solution would be to cast heroism from a scroll or item, then wear the ring only prior to entering the rift, merely as spell strip protection.
I personally never plan to hunt the rift again (1999-2002 was enough thank you), I've invested way too much into wearing outside spells for me to go somewhere that disallows it. So, I know the heroism item isn't as valuable to me as it is to others.
Plus, I get a bitching duration when invoking it, far better than duration from self knowledge, funny how that works.

Whats a property? I deny any knowledge of such things. The Tonis sets are goig to like cost whoever gets them in the hundreds of million range at this points. Fairly sure they have climbed to the tops of almost everyones list, except for people with one specific item in mine for a particular character. A few such items, quivers, in this auction.

IMO tonis boots are worth at least 50m, at a minimum. More likely closer to 100m. Anything over 100m is dodgy and gets into novelty territory because, mechanically, they're not better than a 10x db (on the other hand, if you already have a 10x db, it isn't as if you could buy another one to stack).
The real kicker is that they go out in the silver room on Saturday, but the token room on Sunday. So, like the pea soup at Mendi's, it is a gamble.
That is, of course, just the boots.

And on the note of the Tonis gloves and boots, if you can get the set and trade it to me, which makes my life easier, I'll be very negotiable. I may even offer up my +35 DS/+10 TD, 15lb, spiked shell hauberk for the set (which I value at 110m).
Beat that! :-P

a crafter’s kit
- leathermaking kit
- Selfonia says, “This particular kit will allow you to make belts, armbands, pouches, and headbands from pelts and skins or other leather goods.”
- show: Rolled up tight and tied with a canvas strap, the crafter’s kit looks like a wrapped up leather bundle at this point.
Why is this an auction item and not an artisan skill?

From Rep: "Are you retarded? You were just trying to sell that at 95 for a month and couldn't get a buyer. And the set is worth 300+."
1. I had several offers on the armor, and chose not to sell it. I didn't want silvers for it - the 95 was a range.
2. The value increased when the new Rift area opened, for a variety of reasons: you can use the armor to avoid crawler burrows after they dive on you; the TD helps significantly when uphunting; you can hide out from a swarm of anything no matter where you are; and so on.
3. You're presumptuous, and retarded yourself if you put the Tonis set at 300+. Someone is more than welcome to pay that, but I find it highly unlikely.
Edited to add: While the Tonis set is very useful, with 10% outright evasion and haste chances, and once per hour haste and call wind, along with +20 pickpocketing and dodging, it's not the end-all, be-all. I'd probably let the enhancives die on, at least on the gloves, myself. The boots are dodging ranks according to Nilandia's site and so will cost a ludicrous price to recharge. You can decide the value of those properties yourselves, but it's not 300m by any sane estimation.

10% outright evasion with the tonis set would be pretty nice to someone tripled in dodge and mastered in evasion already. Wonder how high you can get your percentage of outright AS check avoidance to go.
plus 10% of the time when swung at your next attack gets automatic 5 second haste, old school haste.

I'd estimate the boots at ~100-125mil, but what do I know. Gloves will go for less, but I'm unsure how much since if you have the boots you gotta go for the gloves..which will drive the price up. (I'd like a +20 Pick Pocket item and the haste effect is really nifty..but no way I'd afford that)
I'm not going, but I'd like to acquire that nice silver box of magic cards.
I see a few items that will end up being worth sub 20mil on the list, but there's a lot of items about to be dumped on the market that are worth a lot more than that.. Going to be interesting to see just what gets resold in the open. I don't recall that many items from the last Ebons Gate being sold on the open market.

Boots, Gloves, Tattoo's (Non-spikethorn), Airships, Vambraces, Property, pet in bag, quivers.
As to when they will be resold, expect the boots/gloves to move quickly and probably often, tattoos that are won via token will likely move behind the scenes, airshops and property cannot be resold, vambraces within the week at a marked up price, pet maybe in a month, quivers will move only if the archer merchants dont win them.

The "My item wasn't named" comments are likely based around the fact that people don't want to drum up interest in items they haven't seen spoken about at length. Trust me, if you find an item neat and/or useful, someone else does as well. Just hope it isn't someone with a 100+ mill bankroll, or 5 extra accounts to toss tokens around.

If 15 people all express interest in an item, you will have merchants buying the item JUST for resale. Some things are obviously sought after, but some things aren't. I have a lot of nice items, but my problem is I don't buy things I ever intend to trade. There will always be someone with more coins, so there is no point in me offering coins for an item I want. Throwing money at people is another option, I suppose, but i'm not looking to get into that just now. So, I just keep quiet, build up as much silvers as I can, and hope for the best.

For me, I'm feeling like I don't really need anything, so whatever I get with my token or silvers is going to be icing on the cake, but I'm not going to throw all of my silvers at whatever the latest flash-in-the pan gizmo is this year, that just spirals downward in value after the initially heated post-festival dealings.
I already made my Ebon Gate "deal" two days ago, when that lovely coincidence of having something someone else really wanted coincided with that same person having something I really wanted. Win/Win FTW!

Often times it is paid for entirely, other times a merchant will charge between 5-25k. If you went in with a few hundred thousand silver you should be able to easily cover all standard alter lighten/deepen services. Shopping in general may burn through your pockets, so make sure you wait until near the end of the festival so that you have enough silvers for services. You will need a ticket to get onto the grounds, but those will be readily available up to the moment the festival begins, perhaps even during the festival.

EG tickets to the main event never sell out. Even if the batch of 500 sold, they would just open up another batch. It has never been limited attendance. Only access to the Auction is ever restricted. One of the shitter aspects of EG, IMO. CCF ruled BECAUSE the tickets were so limited.

How hard is it to get the lightening and deepening?
That depends on how many hours you can spend merchant hunting. If you're only going to put in a few hours out of each day, don't expect much unless you get lucky. Most people stock up on foodstuffs, and clear their calendars when they want to amass a large quantity of services. If you put in 5+ hours a day and plan carefully, you should be able to get atleast 10 lightening/deepening services by the festival's end.
Some general tips:
1. You need to go into the EG chat and pay attention. Contribute information you have readily, and people will do the same.
2. Make sure you get a map of the festival grounds, and any scripts that are made available for travelling it. Familiarize yourself with the Festival's layout. Wander it a bit and try to commit it to memory. If a list of merchants scheduled to appear at the festival becomes available, be sure to add those names to your HIGHLIGHT list. Keeping Nilandia's website open to the 09 EG page is also a good idea.
3. Keep your thought net open, and watch for merchants and PCs announcing services.
4. In my experience, merchant services tend to be sparse after around 2AM EST. Get some sleep, and be up by around 10-11 to catch any popping on. During the week, many GMs will pop in after they finish their RL work day.
5. If you're concerned about maxing out how much your containers can hold, ALWAYS deepen to max first, even if it means skipping a lightening only service. If you get something lightened first, you take away how much they will expand it.
6. Merchant services tend to be limited during auction hours. Those will be from 12PM to 8PM on Saturday and Sunday. Don't expect too much work during these hours as running the auction has to be extremely taxing on numerous GMs.
That's about all I have for now. Good luck if you do attend.

All,
In prime, this service will be restricted to same armor class only. It should have been the same in plat, but apparently the auctioneers didn't know that ASG means "armor sub group" not "OMG let's go crazy". :)
Some scripted armors will not be eligible for this service, pretty much the same as when it was offered at CCF.

You should go.
Money should not enter into the equation, only time.
If you put the hours in you'll make more in silver-value on paper that you can then sell for dollars or GOA.
If you win a service you don't want you can post it in the EG chat and instantly get someone to pay you for it, usually.
You can buy things from the standard shops and resell at a profit after the event.
You can find things trick or treating, digging, slab hunting.
$40 is only 5m silver. You can't win 5m silver worth of services at the festival?
Of course it'd be best if you just get things you want, but if you cannot afford to go at all unless you sell some of what you win, I see nothing wrong with that.
But this is only if you can put the hours in.
Personally, I've always made money (on paper) going to events. I don't sell what I get (for dollars anyways) but when I compare the dollar cost of going vs. the added silver-value added to my networth, I always come out ahead.
I don't know why I try to convince you, just means more competition for me, but I'm feeling generous.
