My mom and step-dad do not work, but rather have opened up some sort of "e-bay" shop.

To make this happen, they go to these "auctions" and, as they explained it to me, pay next to nothing for boatloads of what people deem crap.

For instance, my mom brings me lots of toys home for my son, Nolan. These aren't ratty, used and disgusting hand-me-down toys -- they are practically brand new. I asked her how much she paid, and she always says, "Oh, a dollar or two".

She brings me video games, Civil war items, everything.

I went home to visit them last weekend and they literally have two rooms devoted to e-bay stuff -- sorted. One box had little toy cars, the next had dolls, etc.

So anyway, my mom calls me tonight and says, "Guess how much my car toy car sold for". And I said, "Oh, I don't know... probably $50". She said, "Nope. Higher". We continue this until I'm in the "$800" range. She sold it for over $800. It's a friggan toy car. I have the link here so you guys can look.

I went on to look at her past sales, and she sells all these toys that she pays $1.00 for -- for outrageous prices.

Her sole income is based off of E-Bay.

I was wondering what sort of things you sell on E-Bay? I sell old video games, CD's and DVD's I don't play/listen to/watch anymore. Sometimes, if I see something I think is worth something at a garage sale or a super sale that's limited time only in stores, I buy it with the idea of selling it on E-Bay.

But my mom sure dominates with her selling of crap. I still don't believe someone paid over $800 for a toy car that goes in the god damn water. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY.

Ebay business is OK only if you pay taxes on it as income. If she doesn't, prepare your mom for some IRS hurtin' because most of the people "make" money by reselling on Ebay by never paying a dime in taxes on the earnings.

I've never had the desire to make it a business, but I made an absolute KILLING on selling Magic:The Gathering cards on Ebay about 7-8 years ago. There are some serious suckers out there in internet land with a lot of money and no fucking sense. Now Antiques' Roadshow has created the same idiot market with the old ladies who think that toy car they paid $800 for from your mom is the same one they saw last night worth $8000.

I've sold comic books, craft books/supplies and handmade items. It gave me a good chunk of extra cash when I moved a while ago. I had niche items so when the economy tanked, sales did too. I've been thinking about selling crafts again just to have extra money to put toward my remaining debt but I think I would go on etsy or try to sell locally instead.

Wanted to add: I've also sold Magic cards (foils mostly) and other ccg's.

I want to run an experiment and wear one around town and see how many people either get it or mock it.

Wal-Mart doesn't count.

*post script I want mine to have one of the comments on the back.

hahaha...yeah, I'm guilty of selling MotG cards on eBay as well. I had around 200 multilands back when they were teh shit (revised?). I dunno. It was a fucking boatload of money for small pieces of paper.
