View Full Version : Color co-ordinating my Jeep.

During my replacement of my engine, I seemed to have scractched up the front end of my Jeep. So in the spirit of new beginnings, I am thinking my treat of the year will be to get a new paint job for my baby.
My Jeep is gold on gold int/ext. My seats are leather on the sides, cloth in the middle in a thatch pattern. I have a custom woodgrain interior dash that is classic oak, with darker undertones. Carpeting inside is all once again, gold.
I like the gold interior, so my question to you all is what color should I have it painted? My preference is a deep green/jade, but it someone wows me with another color, I might reconsider.
Discuss.

I assume you have a wrangler (when people refer to "Jeep" it's usually not a liberty or cherokee).
Dark Green and Dark Blue are the two best colors for a jeep in my opinion. A dark grey/carbon color could also be nice.

'94 Jeep Cherokee Country. It's the crim dela crim < sp? > of Cherokee's.

With the interior color a green, grey-carbon works, red however matches the interior better.
I personally am going with a yellow or black when I get around to the jeep.

^^ What Tsa'ah said.
Dark blue might still look nice if it has a metallic finish.

Yeah, I know, I know.....
Also, anyone got suggestions on where I can get matching carpeting and such at a great price? After I built my box for my speakers, I had them put carpet on and I specified gold, only to see it go into my Sunbird a charcoal grey. I want to replace that, because it'll look nasty as hell in my Jeep.

Carpet for the Sub box?
Almost anywhere that sells automotive grade carpeting.
Find an automotive interior shop and give them a ring.

I went that route, but poor Hector couldn't get my color right. Anyone have a national preference/recommendation?

The only way you are going to get carpet to match is to visit a Jeep dealership and see if they can order a couple of non-molded yards of the material you want.
There is a second option. Get about 3 yards of automotive white and dye it to your liking.
You'll have to cut small pieces and try different ratios of yellow and brown dye. Each time you dye a swatch of carpet, rinse it and let it dry. Then compare the tone to your interior.
Another option is to just cover the box in vinyl and paint it to match with specialized interior paint.
I suggest the vinyl route. Carpeting is only good for trunk enclosures because carpet fades easier than plastic.

Jeep Dealerships are real bad with getting stuff like carpeting, hell they suck with parts in general in my opinion... IE. A light blue in my air conditioning control box, I took it out, brought it to the dealer. The guy said he had never seen anything like it, am I sure it came from the jeep. So I said yah and helped him find the part on his schematic. Suprise, no part, they dont sell it.... auto part stores dont sell it, his advice? buy a flashlight. I had to make a custom bulb!
Anyhow, gold interior is hard to match with stuff... the original green suggestion is probably your best, although you could go for silver or black.... I would stay away from blue, certain shades could clash bad depending on how they come out. Black might go nice.... tan and black works, so I guess it depends on how bright your gold is.... it might work....
Ive gone through 3 Jeeps since 94, my uncles old wrangler in stick that I learned on, then a Grand Cherokee Laredo in 96, then I got uber lucky, and got misquoted in 98 for the Grand Cherokee 5.9 Fully loaded.... they quoted me for the Laredo by accident, oops! Lucky me, I had just taken the thing out for a test drive just cause I had too, I never imagined I would ever actually get the thing.... Anyhow I love my 5.9... even stock it kicks the crap out of just about anything off the line, theres no peeling out with the AWD so even mustangs and the like cant compete off the line.... I love wranglers and such of cource too, but this thing has been a pipe dream :)

I love my Jeep. It's my baby, and my first car, paid for it fully by myself. It's got sentimental value to me.
I am thinking a deeper shade of green or a jade, maybe.

Cherokees are nice trucks, but I think the only jeep i would want would be one of those wranglers.

My boss just bought a Liberty, those things are pretty sweet. But yeah, if I had to pick a style I'd probably get the wrangler. More fun.

Jade probably wouldn't be the best with a gold interior, it looks better with the charcoal grey. I'd say go for a dark green like hunter green, metallic would look good. If you're going to go all out hunter green with metallic gold flecks would match the interior great.

Figured this is as good of a place for any. As stated before I have a special edition 1998 5.9 "Special edition" grand cherokee.
Ive noticed before I went to cooper tires, I was wearing out tires with the extra torque left and right. My next problem is brakes and rotors. Every time I need new brakes, the POS rotors have to go to. Ive seen some "drilled" TRW power stop rotors and matching pads and im thinking about dropping the money into them and trying. Theyre not too much more then what I would pay for new rotors anyhow, espcially here in nyc. Any thoughts on these bad puppys? Heres the link to where I found them:

Jeeps are for girls? Uhuh... well tell that to all the guys who died in them during WW2. Or for that matter take whatever car your driving and go on the line with someone in a 5.9.
My 5.9 would take my porsche or my M3 off the line no problem, sure upper gear ratios arent gonna compete, but it will hold its own on the line thats for damn sure.

Unless you plan on driving you Cherokee like you do your Porch, don't get drilled/slotted rotors.
1. You'll have to service/replace the pads 3 times for every 1 time you would replace them with stock rotors.
2. Jeeps aren't sports cars. Unless you're driving down mountain sides, your brakes aren't going to heat up enough for the drilled and slotted rotors to matter.
You're better off, quality and service wise, picking up a set of Brembro slotted/dimpled.
1. They match your Porch stock rotors
2. They're damned good and reliable.
If you're dead set of cross drilled rotors, go with Baer Brakes.

I'll run your wheel chair rolling ass over in my girlie jeep.
[Edited again to add]
And stick with quality pads. Green Stuff comes to mind.

Its not the "Drilled" that I really care about, yes I drive my jeep fast and hard, but to be honest? Im just sick of putting new rotors in everytime I change pads. These pads/rotor combo on that site advertise 4x more time before they wear out. Even if thats fake and its only 2x more id take it in a heartbeat. But yes, performence would be nice too

Brembro slotted and green stuff pads.
1. Brembro are directional and hard to warp
2. Green Stuff pads have the best wear
3. TRW isn't that great. Price, sure. Actual performance and wear? I think you would be better off with stock rotors and pads.
Also, if you’re having to replace rotors every time, then you may want to look into upgrading your calipers.
Additionally find out who manufactured your ABS system and check the net for feed back. There are a few notorious braking systems out there that were ill designed.
