Hey, I have a Vivitar (Vivicam 3925) that isn't recognized as a camera device by Vista -- Instead, it is somehow a storage device and Windows Update ruined my computer's ability to recognize jack-motherfucking-shit.

I was wondering if any of you kind souls could help me piece this together and make my computer work.

Thanks in advance,

Well to be fair to Vista it is a storage device; It's storing picture/video files. You're not seeing (or able to import) files on it?

The thing is that this brand of shitfuck cameras actually read as storage devices to any and all Windows operating system (Vivitar.)

And nope: After downloading updates for Vista, I get the dun-dun noise when I plug in the USB (all ports) and am no longer getting the dun-DUN noise of recognition.

I used driver detective and the device is definitely recognizable through the USBs without even driver installation, but I can't create keys because it has an entry tracker for a serial. And I'm not installing any other crap unless it's a guaranteed fix with no strings attached.

Are you sure that it's not supposed to read as a storage device? Can you get to the pictures when it shows up that way? Most cameras just appear as storage devices. Camera devices are generally things like webcams.

The problem is that this camera has its own internal storage device manufactured in a remote area of Mongolia, so it either reads as a camera device or an F: drive made with alien technology.

I've tried all USBs.

I need to manually select its F: drive component so that I can drag-drop from there but I don't know how to do that if it isn't being read as something more standard (and displayable on Vista.)

Okay.

How do I open a USB device that's being read as J: (in this case) and explore its file contents with a windows display?

Apparently I have to wait about six minutes after plugging in my camera for the device to be recognized. Bah.
