I heard that Giganews is a good service, only costs $15 - $24/month...

Isn't saying "Use Usenet" like saying "Use IRC" or "Use (x) random server"? Aren't they all independently hosted, independently run, independently controlled?

Anyway, I actually find myself using legal solutions like Hulu, Netflix streaming the vast majority of the time. That, and the unlicensed anime bittorrent indexer (like Mininova, they don't host the torrent files themselves): www.animesuki.com.

I used to download more, but after getting a few DMCA Cease/Desist notices from my ISP, I started looking into sources that their bots can't rip your IP from: direct download links. There are bunches of blogspot sites that follow the new releases, post them to megaupload/etc, then put the links to megaupload on their blog along with the TV episode description. Once being seriesgringas.tv, another being.. er.. tvddl.net, I think. Even though I never got a single cease/desist letter for downloading a game (just the most unbelievably shitty movies/TV shows I downloaded on a whim), I prefer to own the games I play, or use GameFly/etc.

Yes, just like saying "use torrents." It doesn't really matter what provider or software you use. It's still usenet.

animesuki is good, so is tokyo toshokan (http://tokyotosho.info/index.php). As for the DMCA bullshit, get PeerGuardian (http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/). Bit of a pain when you first start using (it's going to block tons of websites, many of which you don't want it to block, so you need to add them to the clear list), but it's totally worth it.

That's why it makes more sense to use a client that supports importing the PeerGuardian list so that you are only blocking real p2p connections.

Azureus, using the SafePeer plugin. Pretty sure there is a plugin for uTorrent as well.

Ah, I've been waffling about switching to uTorrent, but yah, it's been recommended. My current client has been Good Enough(tm), so I've been lazy about it :D

In uTorrent, go to Options>Preferences>BitTorrent.

Under the Protocol Encryption use the drop-down box to select your preference.

Torrents don't seem to download at 100 Mbps for me so I will stick with Usenet.
