Adventurers gathered by Quiggan took to the task of delving into the Scatter, where a final moment of instability revealed a heretofore unseen area, as well as a number of terrible liches. Blade and magic won the day, and the visibly shaken and distraught Haukragg was brought home to Icemule.


The new area of the Rift (The Scatter) is now live. With its release arrives seven new creatures, between 97 and 110. Many of the existing denizens of the Rift have also shifted from their previous generation ranges, in order to better accomodate the new entrants and the makeup of each plane.

With this release, the Adventurer's Guild will now also be assigning tasks for these new creatures, though the highest-leveled creature tasks can only be attained by asking for tougher assignments. Note that the level 110 liches will only generate in the southern 'half' of the Scatter, so those looking to avoid them can do so.

They have INSANE TD and bolt DS. Wizards can only hunt them with 530.

Nifty place. I think the scatter is actually less dangerous for me than plane four, but that's solely because the frickin' rift crawlers can kill you the instant they enter the room. A good group in the scatter on the other hand, is pretty formidable.

Liches outright ignore/dodge any spell 9th level and below cast at them.

The majority of Wizard bolts... fall into that range.

The Scatter shifts between hot and cold, and liches change as well. Infernal liches and frostborne liches; I can immolate the frostborne, but not, obviously, the infernal ones.

At 153 major elemental spells, my CS is 563, which gives me a 70% chance to immo them or something?

I'm best served just by using 530 once to pwn their spells, then one cast of 910 or 510 finishes them off.

I'm just annoyed that it takes 6 seconds, for me, since I'm privy to how easily Gnimble and Droit kill them with Disruption and Spikethorn in 3, respectively.

ALTHOUGH... if we're talking any Wizard that's not me, they're going to have a helluva difficult time in the Scatter.

They have huge Melee and Bolt DS also. I would expect they would be able sniff rogues out being undead AND 10 levels on average above you.

Sounds like unless you have a jacked up Semi-CS, you're barely able to hunt them at all, Pure or square. But as the new hardest creature in the game, I imagine that is the point, sans the comparative ease capped semi's have with them.

I have to say, particularly as the player of a square, that I'm amused by a complaint that it takes entirely too long to kill something: 6 seconds.

If that's the standard, they need to make them more difficult. Far, far more difficult.

Seriously though, the only thing that irked me was that the "loot" command didn't seem to work till the phylactery was destroyed.

I'd also like to see the phylacteries not just be laying there and obvious. It was just too easy to destroy them.

But for a group that's in there to have fun, the place is really going to be fun. Some tweaks are going to be in order for sure, and I'm sure things are going watched very closely.

Meh, D can smite them well enough i'm sure. I don't have any plans to hunt there at the moment anyway. Have you tried it yet with your plinker?

Didn't know you still had your blade. Good call.
I tried it this morning alone and found it simple for Sorc. If we didn't have 410 or 709 it would be a different story.
I've been wearing 102 so didn't bother using weapons yet. Being wary and keeping up 140 in guarded.
Once I know what I'm doing I'll settle into it.

One thing that bugs the bollocks out of me is you can't turn off room descriptions and since I've never had them on in my life, it's made it difficult to see enemies and get used to all the walls of text.

Apparently there is a fissure you need to find. Not sure which plane the fissure is on. Of the capped hunting grounds, this one is by far the most difficult to navigate into and out of, which makes sense, as it is supposed to be the most difficult in general.

Plane four now has a fissure that you need to push open twice to get to the scatter. Once on the scatter, there are several membranous barriers that you can walk through to get to the part with liches.

A greataxe, or any heavy weapon for that matter, should not have much difficulty with the vvrael destroyers.

I use a returning OHE and that works great too, largely due to speed and no parry DS, but a heavy weapon would to me seem ideal for them.

The peskiest critter in there for a square is those freakin' Crusaders. They haste themselves, and unlike some other critters that might get it cast on them, they really make use of it, AND can use it with mstrike without losing the haste effect, plus they heal themselves like crazy and they're non-corporeal, so after all that work, they fade before you can manage to search them. They are largely skipped by squares unless you're in a group.

they fade before you can manage to search them.One trick I've found for this is to put the creature in as much RT as possible before the killing blow, because not even dead creatures can do things in RT. YMMV, as it's been a solid year since I've actually used this method.

That's not bad advice but if a warrior is going to even have a chance kill them they're going to need to mstrike and do 300 damage. They heal ~100 health every 4-5 seconds and every 2-3 seconds with haste on. So, it would have be something that gave pretty substantial RT (see: disarm) so you could last out the MStrike RT and then loot.

To make matters worse, they heal even though they're in RT or stunned. The RT would ONLY keep them from being able to fade. You still have to deal with the healing, when they're in that mode. They don't always seem to be healing though for some reason. I'll have to pay more attention to when they do it and when they don't, but RT and stuns have nothing to do with it.

Kind of funny that they use the word riposte as it strictly implies that they've parried a thrust of yours before returning the attack. Not that this is a valuable contribution to this thread specifically, but it would be a cool passive cman (getting a chance of a free attack after a parry).

My armor is actually only HCP. I found that I rarely saw any benefit of wearing it any higher anyway, so it was silly to spend 100 mill more on my armor just for giggles.

Looking inside, you see thousands of small, grooved metal rods imbedded in the walls rotating slowly. The further down the pit extends, the more narrow it becomes until you can see no more. I'd be careful berserking. It looks like you must have been on 3 where that's probably fine, but I wouldn't suggest berserk on 4, as mstrike swings at a cerebralite could earn you death via cloak of shadows pretty quickly.

How many spells are you wearing in these logs Khariz?

I generally hunt completely unspelled, and my DS is around 260-280ish...I need more though..it's so tough finding spellups in the rift in Plat..like 25 levels of pure rift hunting and i've seen other people up here maybe 3 times.

You should get some 120 imbeds. I imagine they would be extremely valuable in the Rift, especially as you can use RAISE to activate them via ranger rods. Remember as well that Spirit Guard (1711?) is considered native in the rift, and that's another 20 DS. A sorcerer can infuse up a scroll of the spell, and a wizard could use Charge item to bring one towards 40 charges. Between those two you're looking at a significant increase to your defenses with not that much work.

Yeah the major ewave... it's just a question of whether you're going to be dead or just short a limb or two. Lethal body part generally = dead. Could we get some crit randomization to go with that so we at least have a prayer? Thanks.

Bite is a lot worse than charge in terms of DF. Plus he took 3 damage from the rank 1 crit, which you would have too with the same end roll. The padding had nothing to do with it, and your reduxes I'd bet are quite close.
