What manner of attack will these gems use when thrown at a target? CS/DS, Maneuver?

He means brimstone gems (via 325). Envision a holy hand grenade, if you will.

The new version of brimstone factors in the creator's Spirit Lore Summoning and level of the thrower vs level of the target. Also has immolation damage on successful strikes.
