View Full Version : Politically Correct Columbus Day

The politically correct Obama administration is at it again. Obama issued this Columbus Day proclamation last week.

Born in Genoa, Italy, Christopher Columbus' journey aboard three Spanish ships revealed a new land for many European nations whose people would later flock to our shores in search of prosperity and freedom. These immigrants joined many thriving indigenous communities who suffered great hardships as a result of the changes to the land they inhabited. Although their competing ways of life were initially at odds, over time, the "New World" became a culturally and ethnically diverse place where we now enjoy the free exchange of ideas and democratic self-governance. Tribal communities continue to strengthen our Nation through their rich heritage and unique identity.

More... (http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_office/Presidential-Proclamation-Columbus-Day)

There were more Indians than Europeans, but the Europeans prevailed. Anybody with half a brain can see that the European culture that came to American after Columbus was superior to the indigenous culture. Every year we have to go through this.

I'm sick of liberals calling this "Fall Break" instead of Columbus Day. It makes me want to choke them... or give them small pox.

I'm totally glad we wupped their asses. People that cry for "the sins of our fathers" are retarded. If you had zero ability to influence those decisions, why feel any guilt?

What should the invaders/settlers have done anyway, does anyone seriously think we infected them intentionally?

Oh, does anyone know where indian reservations came from? I want to get in on that deal.

Apu: Today, I am no longer an Indian living in America. I am an Indian-American.
Lisa: You know, in a way, all Americans are immigrants. Except, of course Native Americans.
Homer: Yeah, Native Americans like us.
Lisa: No, I mean American Indians.
Apu: Like me.

Do they really still teach in schools that Columbus discovered America? What a shame.

Edit: That's not referring to Native Americans. Plenty of other people "discovered" it first.

Today, Italian Americans continue to contribute immeasurably to the identity of our Nation, as role models, leaders, innovators, and committed public servants. From the boardroom to the classroom, they are prominent in every facet of American life.

I wasn't commenting on the Obaminators note, just on the whole relabeling thing.

And they are Indians, it's not a fucking racial slur. And if it is, I want to be called "First Europeans" or "Second Americans" or "Not Native Americans".

How about we are all "Americans" instead of putting baby in a corner.

I always disliked the term native american. That term applies to anyone born here so just about every american is a native american.

Speaking of Indians, what's with them doing their annual whale hunt (at least in Washington at the time), claiming it's "tradition", yet they're using helicopters and high tech tracking devices, pwning it from above with guns?

Was something like that anyway from what I remember.

Another thing about Indians...

How about we are all "Americans" instead of putting baby in a corner.I think the point they're trying to make is that they aren't "Americans" any more than citizens of the Baltics were "Soviets". I also don't think it's unreasonable for a collection of peoples to prefer non-Eurocentric terms, especially when said terms condense their entire history to "you look like those other darkies".

I think the prefixes on the american are retarded.. whether it's african-american, native american, asian-american, whatever.

I'm american. I have ancestory in Ireland and Germany - but I am not german-irish-american or any shit like that. I was born here, I am american. If I was born in germany, and moved here, I Would be german. If my mom was born in germany, and moved here, and I was born here, I would be american, with german parents.

/shrug.

Also, war is war, yes, we infected them once we realized what we could do. But - again, war is war. We won. They lost. It's nice of us to give them land and such instead of assimilating them into our culture. However, it's 200 years later and we're giving them more and more. In the end, it comes down to we won, they lost - if they want to become american, get rid of the reservations and regulate the land as we would the rest of the country - or something similar (state park, etc).

Also - I think we were taught that Columbus discovered the southern part of america, while there was evidence in BC or someplace that vikings were technically here first.

In the end, it comes down to we won, they lostIf you were to come to the same conclusion if America were conquered by a foreign power, I would be ashamed to call you an American.

Ultimately my experience with red indians, is when they are being culturally identified they'd rather go by their tribe's name. You can find fault in just about anything but there is no slur in calling someone a "Native American".

I still want to use my magical time machine and make it that Ol' Hickory didn't blow off John Marshall's decision not to genocide basically the rest of a decimated people on American soil.

Time machines are fucking win.

Edit: That or this isn't a jab at you SHM; but, I swear, there are a lot of examples of what red-blooded "Patriotism" is today, in America, that is defined wholly by an extreme lack of knowledge in American History itself.

"The first colonizers of the Americas came from Australia, according to archaeologists who have analysed skulls from 12,000-year-old skeletons found in California."
