Any general advice for someone starting a sorcerer that does not expect to get very far level-wise? Race/stat placement/training/spells? I just want to blow some shit up every once in a while.

I certainly do not claim to be an expert on stat placements and such. I will say, that at the beginning of a sorcerer's career, mana is a serious problem. I would 2X in HP and join CoL for wracking. That will help A LOT in the first 25-30 levels as otherwise you will need to be buying bone and twisted wands all the time. If you aren't planning on going very far with the character, don't bother with sorcerous lores. They really only become useful in the character's 40s and afterwards.

2x HP, 2x spell aiming, 100s in Aura, Dex, Log, and Int (or as close as possible). Armor to 4 ranks for fulls, 2x MIU, and 3x spells.

Make it to 20-25 and use implosion to blow crap up. Should be fun.

To continue on with what BriarFox said, have a high wis for starting mana/cs and strength as well, for a character like this where you just don't care that much I don't think you'll want to have to worry about encumberance. You shouldn't tank INF as you'll want the training points. Tanking AGI, CON, and to a lesser extent DIS is probably the way to go.

What is the spell aiming for?

Focused implosion and bolts, if you choose to use them.

What is the spell aiming for?

For Implosion. From the website...

There are two versions of this spell, focused (single target), which requires skill training in Spell Aiming and unfocused, which affects all characters/creatures/objects in the area.

What is the spell aiming for?

Also useful if you use 708, which allows you to aim at specific body parts. Best part to aim for is the right arm, as it will disarm any weapon carrying critter.

Also, consider 1 rank of sorcerous lore - necro. It will allow 701 to give you blood infusions from critters you have injured with it. You only need 1 rank to get the bonus.

Aura and Wisdom are the prime CS stats. Those should be capped for max CS. Other than that, the above advice looks spot on.

SA also allows you to use wizard wands, which will extend your mana.

You all forgot one important piece of advice. This guy needs to build a time machine and go back to the year 2000 when 702 actually blew stuff up :D
