Curiousity has gotten the best of me here. I'd like to see if anyone's built their own homemade chess program and how it went. Primary want is a database of pieces and possible moves.
If Kn = B4, then possible is A2, C2, so on and so forth. Alot of the links I go to are chess programs, which isn't exactly what I'm looking for.
Please and thanks for a possible database. I'm not looking for a game of chess. :)

You want a database of possible moves?
Isn't it better to just recurse them on the fly and see if they will lead to a win?

No, the moves are not for me.
Someone who learns differently would like to learn chess. I'm trying to utilize the database in a way that might pertain to learning.
Pawn B1 = C1/D1 allows said person to utilize a knowledge of column/row to figure it out.
2D chess is all, I know some folks here program and I'm a big "work smart, not hard" idealist. Worse case, I'll run it and see what happens.

Here's a java implementation that makes it easier to create a chess game.
