Howdy folks,
I just got back into the game after a 3 year hiatus, and wanted to try my hand at something new. I rolled up a THW rogue, with the primary goal of picking but still being a decent hunter. Currently 5th train, here are my stats and skills:
Strength (STR): 72 (6) ... 72 (6)
Constitution (CON): 61 (5) ... 61 (5)
Dexterity (DEX): 55 (7) ... 55 (7)
Agility (AGI): 45 (8) ... 45 (8)
Discipline (DIS): 71 (15) ... 71 (15)
Aura (AUR): 90 (20) ... 90 (20)
Logic (LOG): 61 (10) ... 61 (10)
Intuition (INT): 62 (11) ... 62 (11)
Wisdom (WIS): 70 (10) ... 70 (10)
Influence (INF): 90 (15) ... 90 (15)

Current plan is:
1x Armor, CM, PF, AS/MIU (only one of the two every train), climbing, swimming, FA
2x THW, perception
3x Dodge, Disarm, Picking.
DS is a big issure for me at the moment, anything I can do to help out there?
Thanks!
People will need to know race to know more about the stats.
For the training 1x Armor is not enough and 3x Dodge, Pick, Disarm is too much early on.
I don't even think you'll be able to do all that plus you do not need 3x in any of those until much later. Even then "need" probably isn't even the right word. 2x Dodge and trying to keep pick/disarm slightly over 2x should work at least halfway to cap.
Also, get to stone gargoyles in Darkstone as soon as you can. Not the lesser gargoyles. The higher level ones. They are level 39 and I was killing em at 25with a THW rogue and the level requirement has dropped down to 20 IIRC.

Curious, what class did you play before?

Well then, here's my biased opinion. Make a THW berserking warrior.

Might need another check with the stat cruncher or spreadsheet on the STR and CON then. I'm not familiar with their stat growth but I know they have low STR. Encumberance is a HUGE part of the game today and you're starting in a hole there.

He wants to pick, though. I went down the same road. Everyone says be a warrior (to use twohanders). But they can't pick well or do lock mastery. Although I was only going THW because you can get claid weighting for a couple thousand coins, just ended up not feeling like paying for any other weapon as I leveled since a claid was fine.

Really? I hardly see anyone ever suggest warrior. BTW I use a forged lance and it's a blast.
Well, about the THW and rogue thing. A lot of people when they see that say to just roll a warrior. And it would be true except for the locksmithing part.
Oh hey wait a minute.. you have no hiding or ambush. That is ok for low levels but you want to move to 1x or 1.5x in both by level 20ish. Those skills are almost free to a rogue.
Also climb/swim can probably go to .5x each.
So to recap:
Lower your dodging to 2x and lower climb/swim to .5x.
Train up armor as close to 2x as possible and start getting hide/ambush or plan on getting it
If you find yourself still needing points for armor, hide, ambush after you lower dodge then take away from your picking and disarming.

It's hard to say anything at all about any build at level 5 (which you can reach roughly within your first 6 hours of gameplay).
I haven't played with this character in a while but this is my Burghal Gnome, max AGIDEX, maul-swinging, level 33. Works really well, basically every hit delimbs or kills (according to my current aim settings). I don't know that there's much room for picking (relative to my build) unless you shave spells in favor of something like 2 picking/disarm. I haven't even considered the TP cost in the least, though.

You can either be good at combat with THW (as a rogue) and truly mediocre at picking or good at picking and mediocre at combat. You can't do both.

No ambush, no hiding... Not even MOC?
The only way no ambush or hiding training makes sense for a rogue is with ranged weapons, and even then I have a hard time agreeing with it.
Do whatever you have fun with but with that build its almost like you're trying to suck.
Edit: and as Strayrogue said.. 3x dodge, picking and disarm while 2xing two handers? I'm not going to do the math or anything but that sounds pretty impossible.
And even if it weren't, without MOC, or at least SOME ambush.. I'm not sure why you'd want to. I'm all for doing things a little differently.. not being cookie cutter.. and going two handed rogue accomplishes that, just not very well with that build.
