People impersonating others

Begin Rant.

How sad is it when someone in Gemstone has to make a screen name to impersonate me to give me a bad name? What assholes. Today I find out some stupid shit made the AIM name, GSSintik or SintikGS or something like that...... and starts instant messaging people and saying that "I bought Krovaax, Xeniphite, and Methais" and bullshit like that.

After 4 months I finally got a message to my REAL AIM name to find out that people think I go around trying to find out account passwords and telling people I "own all the highest level characters in the game!" How lame can people fucking get? I guess if people make a screen name with <Character name>GS and start saying things, everyone believes them..... I guess everytime some 13 year old gets pissed, he has to spread rumors and lies since they don't know any other way to handle it.

This has got to be the first time I've ever been extremely pissed over something about Gemstone. It doesn't really matter that Krovax, Methais, Xeniphite and whoever else this asshole talked to, thinks that I tell people I bought them to act all high and mighty, but it's the fact that people have to be jackasses about a game. Some people need to get a fucking life.

It is pretty sad, I agree. And I recall a time where some jerk was making characters with VERY similar names to yours with the express interest of being a snert, and having it come back on you.

Come on, people. This IS a game, enjoy it, have fun...dont try to ruin other people's enjoyment of it!

Except it's spelled ouais, and pronounced with a silent S (as many french words that end in S are pronounced).

Just like "yeah" takes longer to type even though it's considered a "lazy" version of "yes," ouais works the same way for the French.

Particularly the Quebecois (which is also pronounced with a silent S)

That's the whole point. If you can't handle something in game and you have to go out of game to do something about it.... it's sad. Oh not you :D I've heard horror stories of what you describe though. People getting IM'd by impersonators simply to stir up shit or insult the others. I mentioned Sintik as the false AIM name you mentioned above was once used in a hoax to get a friend of mine.

I know what you're saying, but this doesn't happen to random people. Things are cause and effect. Something like whispering OOC insults, and then having them make an AIM name to hurt you. Unless it was just some crazy fuck, ya know.

Does it really matter what the reason is?

Impersonating someone is wrong. It doesn't matter what kind of asshole the person being impersonated might be, IC or OOC.

In the game, Sintik is a mean nasty character. The key word being 'character'.

Mean nasty characters tend to anger others sometimes. But come on... In the past year I've had several people whisper OOC insults to me regarding him, I've read more than one threat posted on a AIM profile about him, and I've had OOC insults directed at me (Not my character) because of him. Now we have this this impersonating thing...

It's a game. Some people take it far too seriously and need to grow up, or get a life outside GS.

I could be wrong, but I believe that's what this impersonating thing is all about. The people being impersonated somehow angered this person in game, and now he/she is retaliating.

When someone takes anger from a game, and uses real life resources to retaliate, it's just WRONG, it doesn't matter what their reason is. Lets not justify his/her actions by stating cause and effect.
