cursed gems

If I have a cloak full of gems and only one of them is cursed . . . would the thie pick that one automaticly or would it be by chance , order . . ect?

Depends. Depends on which container he chooses. He'll also take the gem at the top of the container. So if you have an emerald, a zircon, and a topaz, the emerald will go first. Plus, if he steals from you generally (steal <person>), the game will look for the first container with a stealable object. So if you wear your boots with the evil gem in it, but have stealables in your harness, it'll steal from there first.
