View Full Version : Archer training
Anyone with a bardic archer out there past, say, level 30? If so, how necessary is Dodging?
I'm having a very hard time fitting Dodging in, and I'm afraid I may run into viability issues since I can't find anything else in my plan I'm willing to drop. Granted, I'm only level 16 so far, but I'm already noticing that AS/DS margins are tight while self-spelled, and I'm not sure if it's just part of being an archer, or if I'm screwing myself.

Dodge is necessary since you're only getting .5 DS and .5 Dodge per Spellsong rank.
Don't even bother with Ambush until post-cap.
Even though ambush is awesome. If you can fit it in, do.
Don't forget perception. You probably knew this but it's that important.

How do you fit perception in? 1x? 2x?

This is kinda what I figured, but it begs the question, will I be able to aim AT ALL with no ambush skill?

My training is:
1x Armor
2x Ranged
1x PF
1x Harness
1x Spells
15 ranks of AS
2x Picking Locks
2x Disarming Traps
2x Perception
I'm doing really well as a locksmith and as an open, unaimed archer (short bow, just lullaby and fire ebladed arrows all over the place), but this is stretching me right to the edge of my available points. My big concern is that I have no lore (I really want the 1x Air lore for Tonis), and no Dodging (I actually have 1 Rank, but that doesn't really count :P). I still get to rearrange my stats, and I think I'm going to try and push for more MTPs since I'm converting a bunch right now, but I'm just not even sure I'm going to be able to grow into the points for Dodging and lores, ever.

If you're just open aiming, perception is the only thing that matters. Just throw on 402/404 and 2x perception. That's as good as you can do for aiming purposes!

...are you sure? Ambush doesn't help open aiming for archery at all?
Huh. Then I guess I should be okay making my eye shots around level 25 or so.

Yah, open aim has no use for ambush, its some AS, but not enough really to be worth it.
I dropped it from my rogue and got to 3x dodge, and loving it.

Well, that's good news, although I'm still gonna be screwed with the Dodging. Oh, well.
