View Full Version : Spell Hindrance?!

How exactly does spell hindrance work when you aren't fully trained for the armor?

I know it's not simply an AU rank:%hindrance ratio.

Let's say I wanted to wear armor that had 21% failure. It would require 310 AU Ranks to bring it down to 21%. What if I only have 202 ranks? What about 252?

I might have notes on this and I'll get back to you about it later (heading out for the moment).

I do know that you lower your hindrance as you get more ranks. It's not a threshold system.

You do lower your hinderance while getting closer.

I faintly remember while getting to 110 ranks of AU for hauberk, at some point just for kicks I tried on a set and had 16% hinderance for the Ranger circle.

If you were wearing AsG 17, 18 or 19 without the 310 AU to bring the hindrance down to 21%, you would have more than 21% but less than 94% {which is the max hindrance for half-plate}.

I'm not sure how much hindrance you would have for how much AU, but the forward formulas are here...

I'm not much for math, so I'm not sure if you can reverse engineer them.

I know all that. As stated in the OP, I want to know what formula they're using because it seems all kinds of weird.

I tried to figure it out once, and it is very weird. Here's the data I have:

total req 2 6 10 15 20 27
ranks% 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
0 2 5 11 18
1 2 5 10 17
2 1 4 9 16
3 4 9 15
4 3 8 14 23
5 7 13 22
6 2 6 12 20
7 6 11 19
8 5 10 18 27 39
9 4 9 17 26 37
10 3 8 15 24 35
11 8 14 23 34
12 7 13 22 33
13
14
15 4
16 9 17 27 39
17 8 16 26 37
18 7 15 24 36
19 6 14 23 34
20 5

Enjoy! :D

Alright, you got me interested.

It looks like that as you get closer to the ranks required, you get closer to exactly 1% per rank. There is also a base hindrance effect that goes as follows: the higher the base hindrance, the higher the % per rank one gains in the ppr <> 1 regime. By this reasoning, you'll be SOL with 202 ranks and in the 80s at best with 252 ranks.

If someone could try Paladin spells in AsG 12-13 with 0 ranks, that would be super.

I can't believe how idiotic that was. Analysis should be done by bonus, not ranks. Argh. A moment.

Ok:

Each base hindrance is increased by (.05*base hindrance) per point of bonus away from the required amount (determined in the usual way). I feel ok about this, there are still a few kinks to work out.

Therefore, you would have 134% (max value IG) hindrance with 202 ranks and 82% with 252.

Well fuck. I won't be able to do what I wanted.

Thanks for the work though!
