Change to your city, you may need to switch to the developer track if it says there is no capacity. I've heard of people being able to go to launch events, get their software and just leave, but you may have to sit through a ~2.5hr presentation which will bore the skulls off any of you non-IT/Developer types.

... Personally I'm looking forward to the presentation as well

Are they offering a free copy of Ultimate? Or just sticking a pic of it up there?

I might try to go to the Kansas City one since it's fairly close. I'd be interested to see the presentation.

I'll try it's only a 500mi trip for me that's a day trip (I like to drive) but I'm not sure what my work load is going to look like or if I even have any vacation time yet with this company.

If I had to guess, Professional. In the past I've gotten Vista Ultimate from launchs like this, as well as Vista Business, Visual Studio has typically been the 'professional' SKU for these launches, and the copies of Windows Server and SQL Server have been the lower non-enterprise editions (standard).

I'm pretty positive it won't be Home edition... if it is though, Microsoft said they'd be offering SKU upgrade options "as you go".

yeah, I would be interested in seeing the IT Professional presentations, however that one is full. Not sure I want to sit through the Dev portion.

You have to be an IT prof to get the software? Or anyone can go and swipe a copy?

edit: not that it matters "

You get to pretend your a professional Developer if you want a copy. At least in Denver, since the IT Prof is full.

I give you choices this morning!

Joke 1: I'm pretty sure they won't let you, or your mother, in the door when you tell them you're there for the wondows training.

Joke 2: You do realize that sending them a picture of your penis and saying it's from your "ex" isn't considered registering right?

I'll just continue to pirate Windows. I'm kind of interested to see how they run this event at the Boston Common theater, though.

There's not shit nearby for me except Miami and I don't speak spanglish.

However they're giving free copies of it away at my room mates work.

If anyone else is going to Boston, we can grab dinner after.

Else I'll check in with the Boston contingent to see who wants to get together somewhere.

Did anyone else go? Windows 7 Ultimate, but 32 bit media :( At least my key will work on a 64 bit install. (I've heard they're going to do the same alternate media thing they did for vista, after official release, which is good).

Is it like a full copy you'd buy?

I'm going next week. Any thing you guys can share what went down? How many people were there? Etc.

Celephais
10-05-2009, 01:22 PM
It's the full "not for resale" ultimate edition. The theater was pretty packed, they book them to capacity. They give you a survey when you go in (didn't check my registration), and then collect it on your way out in exchange for Win7, you can likely skip out early and get the software, but YMMV. You could also attempt to go to the second session and get your survey then, then fill it in, turn around and get your software and walk, but who knows.

As far as what went down... just various features of 7 you can take advantage of as a developer, task bar stuff, sensor stuff, multi-touch stuff, etc.

Another quick question for those that went. Did you have to sit through both seminars, or just the first one?

Celephais
10-05-2009, 06:42 PM
I just sat through the first one and then left. I bet you can cut out early for the first one (it's split into three parts, they'll start setting up the giveaways during the 3rd), or pull the "I'm attending the 2nd seminar" on your way in at noon, and then turn around in the crowd and walk out and collect.

The Ponzzz
10-05-2009, 06:44 PM
I don't mind sitting through the whole first one. Just a 5 hour drive there and back, so I wanna peace out before the second one.

You would drive that long for a Windows 7 key?

Yeah a lot of vendors were pulling that promotion. I think HSN is 2 day drop shipping Gateway laptops because of the 7 launch. They were good deals I just didn't want a gateway.

Maybe you shouldnt buy anything until you get your bills paid up - even if it is 'dont pay for 12 months!!11"

It wasn't the vendors doing that promotion, it was microsoft. All oem copies of Vista bought after a certain date get free upgrades to 7.

I wouldn't be spending a dime at any rate. I'm not making a purchase other than clothes for a long fucking time.

Heheh @ bills paid up. I owe over 100k to the hospitals as it is. I laugh when I get the please send full payment by xx/xx/xx in the amount of 140k.

Should frame one. Fucking insurance company.
