Its good to know that after seeing so many amazing things over the years that I can still be absolutely blown away by something that is completely new to me. And since I am in a sharing mood:

Ukraine's Got Talent (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=518XP8prwZo)

Here's some comments from the youtube site:

Quote:
It is about World War 2. First audio is news cast about the Nazi invasion". Final sand writing with mother & child, & ghostly image of the sailor, is "Your are always near by." ("you are always in my heart")

The Slavic people lost well over 30 million soldiers and common folk in WW2 , so even today the emotions are still strong for not only the old survivors, but also the younger generations.

Fucking amazing what she can do with just sand on a light board.

they lost more than 30 million people?

That'd be 10% of our population.

I think between Russia and Ukraine they may have lost a lot, but I don't think strictly Ukraine lost 30 million of its nationals.

Well the term Slavic emcompasses a lot of coutries' people. I know like 11 million of the Soviet forces died in battle against the Nazi, so if you threw in the nationals from some of the other couties it's entirely too possible they lost that many.

Because of the German occupation and the Soviet repression from 1939 to 1945 during World War II, Ukraine lost about 10,000,000 citizens or one Ukrainian out of four. It is reasonably estimated that about 50 million people perished in the world because of World War II which means 20 per cent of all the victims were Ukrainians. In this figure are about 600,000 Ukrainian Jews.

That would explain the emotional response from the audience for sure.

That's cool. I've always liked that type of performance.

Reminds me of the first one I saw. This was a video that was passed all over the place years ago. From the 2003 Olympics I think. The music is really cool in this one.
