The game project I am working on is making some good progress. I am looking for a few people to move around in the game end check for latency issues, saving issues, combat issues, etc. I am working on the project daily so most likely there will be new content/mechanics on a regular basis. If the game is not responding it is most likely undergoing maintenance and you can try back later. I will try and keep it up as long as possible. I will also try and put together a forums on another server so as to not pollute this one with another games details.

Connection Information:

Client Software: http://www.mushclient.com/downloads/dlmushclient.htm
Note: You can try other clients, but MushClient has been verified to work without any problems.

There's enough WoW info on these boards to kill a goat, so I'd say feel free.

Is this another disgruntled player created GEMSTONE KILLER?!?!?!

While one should never underestimate the stupidity of those around them, I don't think you're gonna have any luck getting people here to download and run an EXE file from a site based in Australia, especially being a member here for 12 days at the most.

1) MushClient is a pretty respected client application if you've played any MUDs aside from Gemstone.

2) I've been a member since 2008 with this account ( not 2009 ).

3) I am not trying to make a Gemstone killer. I am simply using my free time to explore creating a game that can be enjoyed by whomever wants to play it.

Ok you got me, I have failed terribly:(

I was mostly joking, because there have been at least 4782304 people during my GS years that quit or got banned from GS then were like I'M GONNA MAKE MY OWN MUD AND SHOW YOU GUSY!!!!!!!11, code a few things, then disappear.

Yeah I have no doubt there have been a lot to try. I think for the most part they fail because they are doing what you said and trying to make a 'Gemstone Killer'. Realistically there is no chance of coming out with a game with the kind of content Gemstone has amassed over the years. I simply am trying to bring something out that can provide some enjoyment to people and can use my brain a little more than I do at my day job. Gemstone has always been a great place to spend time and find it worthwhile to try and capture some of the lost excitement of new exploration.

Any chance you can have your directional commands extend "Go", so that "south" can be "go south"?

Never was a fan of typing "go <direction>", though I imagine you could set the keypad keys to do this.

Brawling combat and your traditional sewer system with rats should be in place this evening. You can also use the level command to increase/decrease your level to play around. Make sure to use train to modify your statistics after using the level command.

The custom lockable Methais cyber room:

You see a large statue of a man bent over with his hands on his ass cheeks. Upon closer inspection you notice that there is a ring on one of the fingers.

>Turn Ring

As you turn the ring the hands start to pull the ass cheeks apart, the sound of stone grinding on stone fills the air as the cheeks spread ever farther, far past what most would consider normal limits. As the the hands come to a stop there is a gaping maw where one would expect to find a normal sized dirt star.

> Go dirt star

I could not find what you were referring to.

> Go gaping maw

Against your better judgment you enter the gaping maw, the heat and moisture are uncomfortable but you quickly forget about them as your nostrils are assaulted with an effluvia that can only be described as sperm and shame. Why is it warm in here, why is there moisture and shame I thought this was made of stone? Really you just stepped into a man's ass and you dare question your senses..

> Turn colon

The maw clenches behind you leaving you nestled in a cacoon of epic and win.

Players on my game can mate, have children, name them, raise them (they start as Items, and become NPC MOBs, and must be cared for) then at a race-specific age they become playable characters that you can log in (with enhanced stats, and even new mother/father racial mixes created on the fly by the code).

What characters do in private is none of my concern. But the mechanics of pregnancy and birth are coded. Still needs a lot of work, but at least the basics exist.

I just want to fool around on it using telnet. Now, my telnet is very rusty, so I'm probably forgetting something crucial... I get to the login screen, but when I type "c" like starting to type 'create', it sends a return with it. Any character I type sends a return...

connected to a pop server and it was happy with it... hmm.

Sounds like the telnet is in character mode, rather then line mode.

Primarily I have been using MushClient for development. I believe there were a few people that tried other clients and were successful. For right now I would suggest MushClient until a finalized custom client is created.

Rats have been spotted in the sewers. You can use your brawling skill to defeat them and hopefully gain some skill and levels during the fight. I am working on create some basic weapons to purchase from vendors in town.

Item stores are being placed in the township. Killing rats in the sewers and skinning them should successfully produce a pelt which can be sold to local furriers sometime tonight.

I'm interested in helping out however I can. One way I think would draw more interest would be to create a way to use Wizard with your connection. Jamus did this with ROE/UL and it was the best thing to happen to that game for me...

Jumpkick

Unfortunately the Wizard is the intellectual property of Simutronics. I do intend on creating a custom client for the game, but that will probably come after I actually have a name/website and more content to use.

Skinning creatures and a bank system have been implemented. I am toying with the idea of either having specific places to sell your items or just a general pawnshop to sell anything you don't want. Anyone have suggestions either way?

Makkah
08-19-2009, 02:11 AM
I say make it an obvious answers system. Pawn will buy anything, basically. Specific stores will pay slightly better for relative items. Take a set of full plate to pawnshop, 500 coins. Take it to an armor shop, 700 coins. Arms shop... "I don't want that crap."

Modified character creation to allow the player to pick where stat points go. Starting stats are all set to 25 and you have 100 points to distribute. This might become random in the future but for now I think this is better.

As to not polute the Gemstone IV Players Corner forums with messaging about an alternative game, I have opened up www.shadowrealmsonline.com. It's a really bland site right now ( just a link to the forums ) but hopefully will be getting some more content about the game under development and maybe spark some interest.

Making a silverlight client for it? He'd have to host a policy file on the server for that to work (I hate this restriction, I had a working silverlight client for GS that suddenly had to be shelved when they added that restriction)

Making a silverlight client for it?

Yes. I am going to be making a custom client to give a better experience to the player so they won't have to use Mushclient or zMud or something like that. I'd like to have integrated heal/aether/map/inventory/macros/etc.

Fuck I can't find the article I just read about a couple guys that made a mud over in Europe that is free to play but makes like $100,000 a month from the player's spending money on upgrades and what not to their characters.

Was interesting.

Sweet, yeah the silverlight engine is awesome for a mud client if you can get around the socket restrictions (and the fact you're hosting the server lets you). Silverlight lacks a solid RichText control, and most custom implications are a bit slow, hopefully that'll improve. The biggest advantage is that it's very easy to integrate a scripting engine into the client.

Yeah I am hoping to add a bunch of nice stuff to the client. I am not sure if it is more worthwhile to create the client now to allow for easier access to the game, or have people use mushclient and work on gameplay items.

I'd suggest actual gameplay until you really have all core systems fleshed out. Then worry about the UI and UI improvement systems (like maps etc).

Do you have a good handle on the silverlight client? If your sever is running on that port and you've got the policy socket server running I can try connecting my silverlight client to your game (although mine current expects to be dealing with stormfront xml, I think I could easily update it to not worry about it). And if it's all good I can send you the project (if you want to scrap it, use it for reference, temporarily, etc).

Implemented parties so you can join/leave/disband while moving around. Currently there is no way to disallow people from joining you.

All guilds have been created in town and can be used to TRAIN your character when you earn enough experience to level.

Combat is working right now and you are able to go find some rats in the sewers. I know fighting rats in sewers is pretty overdone at the moment but it was a simple AI to create and I like simplicity.
