View Full Version : Solhaven Evacuates Citizens

Nilandia
08-04-2009, 04:21 AM
In light of the prolonged invasions and major structural damage afflicting the city of Solhaven, the office of the Provost has announced voluntary evacuations for the city. Some of the human citizenry has already departed for the safety of Vornavis's walls.

Said one of the evacuees, a youth from South 'Haven, "It sher do sound like a chapter be closin' on tha town's hist'ry, dat's fer sher."

-----------------------------------------

Some of Solhaven's NPCs have departed from the area due to the danger posed by the recent escalations from the watery front. Others, like the haggard matron and the middle-aged priestess, have holed up in safe areas until the cessation of hostilities.

The opportunistic creatures who are drawn to the portal have moved on Solhaven en masse, and the town is currently in a persistent lawless state.

Either way, the end is coming.

Auchand

This is also a general warning to everyone. Do not go to Solhaven unless you're prepared to meet capped level critters. It's not an invasion where creatures come and go, but a constant presence. People are gathering in the infirmary in Fasthr's Lance, located two southeast, one south and one east from North Market.

I don't know where the matron is, but the priestess is in Imaera's temple, two blocks east of the Lance.

Things to watch out for: horrors, titans, legionnaires, towering pillars of water, griffins, crawlers, and wurms. Oracles and ascendants, too, but those are usually GM controlled and won't spawn automatically. Everything else is cake.

I didn't see anything special. The constructs blow up and leave mein shards worth about 600 silver (like those things in darkstone castle). Everything else left pretty average gems.

This makes people miss GM Crusade. To allow lower levels characters to join the invasion, he had lower level creatures attack from the Northern gate of Icemule, 50ish level creatures attack from the east and west, and higher level creatures to the south gate. He gave a lot of newer characters a chance to experience a GS invasion aside from loading a ballista ad nauseum. It was one of the few times you'd see a capped character leading a group of pre-lord characters out of a gate into an invasion.

I'm assuming the griffins are a clone of war griffins and the pillars of water probably ?greater? water elementals.

Which one is the dissembler clone?

What are the nasty attacks to watch out for? Anything that works on the regular versions but not on the clones?

Going to come over and do some hunting.

Lumi

I believe the tentacled monks are the dissembler clones. I couldn't touch their TD (475ish bardic), but I could Haste-Fu the shit out of them.

Horrors curse, not sure what else.

Oddities have Vvrael-type "acid blood" reaction flares if you strike them and don't kill them.

Legionnaires die to Droit's rapidfire spike thorn faster than I can follow so I have no idea what they do :P However, I know that I can't affect them with Lullaby AT ALL, and they seem to have a buggy reaction to 1030 (I get the same messaging you get when you try to cast at a dead creature, even when it's alive...so weird). They have DS in the 600s, not sure on TD.

The towering pillars of water have a bardic TD of around 400, I mostly avoided them so I'm not sure what they do. I'd guess they're the GWE clones. They can be 1005'ed.

The griffins are war griffin clones, best I can tell. Pick up and drop maneuver, screech, doublestrike, etc.

The floating eyeballs presumably do Evil Eye, but I kill them with 1030 before they get a chance to do anything so I can't tell what's in their arsenal. However, I noticed that when I used 1030, the initial hits caused them to "absorb power from the spell" or something...it still did damage, but it looks like they might have some sort of reaction attack if they're cast at a few times.

The kappas, troll chieftains, constructs, pallid lizards, are all pathetic.

Overall, fun times, I just wish it were more strictly tiered, so I could avoid all the little stuff and kill the ones that are my level.

Thanks Lumi! As far as you know, only the monks can implode?

..and while we're at it..

..and where is the lance again? Is that inside Lorminstra's temple?

droit

Horrors can only be hit by physical and bolt attacks and have reactive vacuum flares.

Legionnaires are triton sentries.

Pillars are GWEs.

Titans have a fuckton of health, a high TD and a middling defense.

Wurms are souped up roa'ters.

Heh. I've never been to Nelemar. Dissemblers implode?

I haven't seen a monk do that but I'm mostly sure Droit or Rimalon said that they're the dissembler clones. I haven't actually seen them DO anything yet, so they may very well implode. They die super fast to Fu, so I don't much care :D

The lance is in Eonak's Temple. From NM, go SE, SE, E, S, Go Gate, Go Tower, U, U and you'll be in the infirmary. Note that monsters have gone as far as to enter the tower; I haven't yet seen one go up the stairs yet.

If you use Symbol of Return inside Solhaven, you'll end up on the roof of the Lance (CLIMB STAIR to get into the infirmary).

Heh. I've never been to Nelemar. Dissemblers implode?

You have a better chance of being imploded by a Triton Sentry instead of a Dissembler. Dissembler's primary attack is Disintegrate. It will also cast 111 and when all else fails FI.

Asrial

I LOVE how everything is anti-caster.

..and I LOVE how 461 end roll eye shots with a long bow produce a minor.

Even fully dispelled a legionnaire is pushing a 600 TD and the monks 550.

Forget about horrors which absorb your spells (and I didn't get a chance to dispel an oracle, but it had an extremely high TD also).

This is definitely an invasion for the melee (I saw the oracles DS get as low as 58!).

TheLastShamurai

Just to note so there's no confusion. The Lance is in the same room as Tsoran has Eonak's temple marked. Since the map was made, an actual temple for Eonak was opened in the same room as Imaera's temple. The directions Lumi posted are accurate, though.

Auchand needs to be reminded once in a while that not only capped players want to participate in scenarios.

He started off tailoring the monsters to the rough level of the individuals in town. Then he went on a kick for a while of designing super-monsters and personally controlling them so that they challenged the capped players, and tough luck for anyone level 90 or lower.

To his credit, once he was reminded that non capped characters want to play too, he adapted. This last few days of invasion has had a high rate of kappas, water lizards, initiates and sea trolls. Yesterday I saw a much greater variety of characters enjoying the scenario than ever before.

I agree. I logged in with my lowbie Ranger and one of those pink-eyed Kappas came into the area and attacked me (right after I armed myself luckily). I quickly dispatched it and got some nice Ora edged flaming red pants off em, woot! Anyways..it wasn't long before I had to run from a much larger critter and take cover.

Titans are repainted Stone Giants/Illoke on steroids, and yes they will fall on you after death and generally need to be dispelled in order for melee fighters to hit them good

There have been 2 kinds of wurms, Colossal Sea Wurms and Behemothic Deep Wurms, the Colossal kind is best delt with by an archer. The Behemothic can be warded relatively easily, and beat on by someone with at least 500AS while the wurm is in Stance O.

Horrors and Abominations behave the same, except Horrors will cast Disease and Curse, and Abominations pull out some War Griffin tricks like wingbeat.

Horrors have void reactive armor, Aboms have disentergrate reactive.

Those tendrils they swing are basically Kroderine Whips, and I've had nasty nerve damage from the Horrors sapping the hell out of my mana.

Solhaven's creatures have resumed their assault after a several-hour hiatus. In the interest of making this invasion more fair to lower-leveled players, creatures will be broken up into the following rough zones and levels:

Marshtown -- levels 0-14
Far North 'Haven -- levels 15-25
North Market Area -- levels 26-41
North of Bridges -- levels 42-63
South of Bridges -- levels 64-80
Deep South 'Haven -- levels 81-100

Please be advised that there are no barriers present to prevent creatures from moving among zones, so there will be bleed. Also, horrors and their offspring, the abominations, can appear anywhere in town... so be careful! I'll be gathering data to see if this new organization works better for all involved.

A bunch of undead now too.

Lower level characters should definitely poke around the northern areas of Solhaven, but definitely scout the place with your higher level character first.

Also, there seemed to be a large number of griffins (among other things) running around in the south so MAYBE we can finally start frying there.

Also, the acolytes are dogmatists for sure.

You can still get to River's Rest. The heavy hitters are far south of Glok's Pier.

Also if you just sit around the lab or the living room, every few minutes you'll see a room script, usually with a little gnome popping out from behind something and tidying the place up. Yeah, was an old auction item originally owned by Sorchia and was heavily Eorgina themed. The laboratory used to be an Eorgina shrine with a statue that would blind both your eyes if you stared at it. I wanna say it would cut your hands off too but I don't remember.

But yeah, everything that's there now was designed by me. An old friend of mine came up with the actual wording, but the ideas behind it were mine because I suck at "painting". It has a 6th room now too, whereas it originally only had 5, since Mikos was a cool GM and threw in an extra room (down the stairs from the balcony) because it took him like 2 years to finish building it, since it was strictly a side project even though he didn't have to renovate the place at all.

Door's always unlocked and open, so go in and out as you please. Lots of food and stuff on the sideboard in the living room too.

I would say no, but it may be level dependent. I can definitely say that the Rift is safer, faster, easier, and richer for me to hunt than Solhaven, but I'm almost capped. If you were hunting the lower level stuff, that might not be true.

There do seem to be a good number of Kezmonian honey beryls dropping, though, which may be the most valuable gem in the game right now.

There are no benefits to hunting in Solhaven versus your normal hunting grounds.

However, if you can't get to them.. then it's worth it.

There's plenty of treasure and plenty of XP if you team up with a group or able to avoid the nasties that can kill you because of your level.

..and if I have a bunch of those beryls..

What's the best way to sell them?

BTW, Methais. Your house is NOT safe, got ambushed by a particularly butt hurt GM while resting. Cheap fucker didn't even walk through the front door. Two lived the rest were toast. Don't worry your muffin statue's fine Or was it a cupcake...Either way they only smashed the race track up a bit.

The beryls you should auction off here and make sure you advertise them to both Fleurs and Rimalon as they will most likely be wanting them.

Nice. Did you get a log? I wanna see the pwnage.

I wonder if they could still do that if the door was locked, which makes it considered a private room.

Ok thank you..I do appreciate the Gm's trying to have different lvl creatures in different areas. Being able to participate as a lower lvl (I sold my higher lvl characters a while back...mistake) I remember in Ice Mule when the lower lvl snow creatures were around the North gate and the higher lvl nasties were toward the east and west. I though that was so cool.

Yeah, Auchand is doing a decent job separating the creatures so everyone can feel helpful, but the bottom line is that Solhaven is a DANGEROUS place to be right now, for anyone. He's explicitly said on the officials that Solhaven is NOT considered a hunting ground right now, so for the average solo hunter, I expect it's not an efficient place to be if you're just looking to loot and fry.

After an absolutely horrible day hunting (dunno if things are just harder or if I just suck today)... I think I've had my fill of Solhaven.

This caps my feelings on the issue...

I'm wearing forest green brigandine :(

Those are dark catalysts and are notorious for massive damage with 101 results. Hated night mares back the in the day because of it.

I've had shit luck all day...

I walk through a room and a pillar of water does its slow motion bolt that knocks me to the ground in offensive and stuns me for 8 rounds. An abomination present hits me for 1 damage and dispels my elemental spells. I then get picked to death.

A griffin RT locks me into 20 RT while a horror is present (okay, this one is on me but I can handle the curse from the horror and I get the hell out of dodge when it maelstroms) and it maelstroms immediately after that. 15 seconds later, the griffin adds 12 more RT and then the maelstrom hits for 125 damage blowing out my nerves.

A fuckton of griffins show up and I get screeched into 20 RT. Then I get swatted. Then I get call winded. Then I get screeched again. Slowly, over time, I get pecked to death. Oh yeah, the level 80 oddity (taint clones) keeps e-waving and tremoring me to the ground.

Blech.

Not really anything 'news worthy' beyond a couple of NPC's coming in with nothing important to do or say.

However, there is a new creature.. (an aberration) so this is an upgrade worthy of a new post.

There is a special place in hell for authors who bring in brand new characters in the last few pages of a story... and I imagine Auchand will be sharing it.

I hope he just lets Raelee, Misun or Eugenides to wield the final "smile magic" scenario ending sword of finality this weekend.

If I have to watch another scenario end with two GM run characters smile magicking a final solution while all the player characters watch on as brainless spectators then my head will explode.

Kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario, don't you think?

You have a camp of people that are trying to get involved with "New" characters that will cry favoritism if they are kept out. You have another camp of people that spend 20 hours of each day logged in and participating that people will cry favoritism if they are given preferencial treatment for doing so, and you have a camp of people that would be upset if the GMs attempted to avoid both scenarios and wrap things up using NPCs.

Then all the people who hate everyone involved, because hate keeps them warm.

The NPCs that recently appeared are not new. Avelorre and her master came from a completely different storyline back in Ta'Illistim earlier this year. They're run by a different GM, too. Roame was around in the early parts of the Solhaven storyline, and he's been around as a green light every so often since he sacrificed his physical form to close one of the portals.

The prophecies and rumors of the past year have borne deadly fruit.

In the last hours of Solhaven's existence, its valiant defenders attempted to save the town through a sympathetic magic that would shut both portals into a watery domain, which threatened the town, at once. While attempts were sufficient to close the portal aboveground, they caused a chain reaction that caused the lower portal to begin growing exponentially.

A Sea Priest named Volgust, who had defended the town in the past, offered a decision: consign the town to Charl through him, or watch the rift consume the town, then the world. Charl's power, it was said, would defend Solhaven if it was in his domain. After much deliberation, the Provost of the town made the choice to release the town to Volgust.

Soon after, despite attempts of a few concerned citizens, Solhaven was consumed by an immense tidal wave. Naught but interpersonal strife was left behind.

The OOC Note:

For those of you wishing to get to Solhaven, well... you can't. I guess that means I'm out of a job as town guru unless we think of something quick! Thank you, everyone, for making the Cataclysm Quest so spectacular.

If you log in to where Solhaven used to be, you should be ported out of the town in short order. We'll have a solution within the week to deal with people's lockers and bank wealth, and there's no need to worry about your player shops.

I fully expected this to be a polarizing and troubling time for some Solhaveners, so kudos for the vast majority, who handled this event with grace and characteristic charm.
