I just finished watching this at my local theater, it was pretty good, and I got the sneak preview tickets for free!!

I saw the Ad for it tonight at the bar. You are my first review so I guess I'll go see it. If it sucks I will drown you in a pool of your own blood.
This movie is gonna suck and that makes me sad.

You think so? I'll probably see it for sheer nostalgia.

They pussied up the concept of GI Joe as to not hurt anyone's feelings.
I'll still go see it though :)

I'll pass on paying to see this. Looks horrendous, not like I was expecting it to be full of depth though.

Believe it or not, the reviews have been favorable. Its got 83% on RT at the moment. Word is it blows Transformers 2 out of the water. I'm going to see it just to watch Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes go at it.

Anyone remember the original storm shadow toy from the 80s?
God that thing had like 100 fucking knives and weapons.
I never did get a snake eyes........

Why does Cobra Commander not appear in the previews? As far as I'm concerned he's the main character.

Does it have a Public service announcement at the end? I have high hopes that it does, with the old 'and knowning is half the battle!' line.

Actually it does, they have a message about the pros and cons of using the pull out method.

So I have one of those crimson guard action figures from 1985 in the package, mint condition, even the stupid thing where the store hook goes is unpunched. I don't remember where I got it. Some dork is selling two on eBay, one for $700, another for about $500 but they have this seal of authenticity by this stupid agency with a bunch of spelling errors on its site (www.toygrader.com (http://www.toygrader.com)). Anyway it seems like a pain in the ass to try to sell a toy nowadays. So I'm going to give it to my little brother for his birthday next weekend when the movie comes out because back when they were new I stole his and he was like 2 and couldn't do anything about it. I wonder if he'll remember.

G.I. Joe was a pretty big part of my childhood. Use to watch the cartoon on USA and I had 100s of the action figures. Use to play with them for hours each day. Even at my current age, I wish I could find something that was as fun as G.I. Joes were to me when I was 7.
With that said, the movie preview makes me cringe a little that they will fluff it too much. Cobra Commander better be a snake.

Did GI Joe come on RIGHT before JEM for anyone else? I swear to God, I have the JEM theme-song stuck in my head forever because of that...
Also... GI Joe rocks... that movie looks like it sucks ridiculous amounts of diarrhea.
I will never see it [in the theaters] because some toolbag that my fiancee thinks is hot plays Duke.

I just saw a preview with a Kid Rock song from 5 years ago. Can the movie possibly recover from that? I say no.

Don't do that. He'll fuck it all up and make it worthless.

The real GI Joe action figures from the 60's and 70's were the shit. I don't think any of the action figures from today compare at all. I had a couple when I was really young, and always thought they were the best compared to the others. IIRC, there was some sort of controversy with them, that they were too violent (like today's video games) and it killed the old 12" models. Something like that.

Uhh did 60s and 70s G.I.Joe have awesome figures like Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Hooded Cobra Commander and ZARTAN??

Just saw the movie, and this was pretty much the summer popcorn action movie worth waiting for. No frilly dialogue, minimal love story antics, just straight up sleek, black leathery, gun-toting, explosive-firing action. Just enough backstory with characters to explain relationships (whether accurate or not, I'm not GI Joe expect) in the movie, but never drawn out enough to create lulls in the movie (like Terminator: Salvation had...a lot of).
I'll probably go see it again the weekend after District 9 comes out during the end-of-August drag in movie releases.

$150.
I went in with only a few expectations and a small percentage of them were met. As far as I'm concerned, the only reason to watch it is the Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow thing, even though they pointlessly rewrote their backstories. Storm Shadow takes off his shirt and Snake Eyes don't need no stinkin' power suit to be badass.
Also, every woman needs supportive boobie armor. EVERY WOMAN, damnit.

What is the problem you guys are having with the movie? I never got much into GI Joe as a kid, so I don't know plot stuff. But the movie itself wasn't bad I don't think.
Only thing that could have improved it is having the red head topless at least once...

I just felt like they changed so much... GI Joe was awesome just the way it was. ALl they needed to do is bring it in line with today's special effects and it would have worked for me. It's just aimed to be a blockbuster action movie.
I was a Silverhawks/Thundercats kid, not so much with the G.I. Joe, so I'm sure there are changes they made to the backstory that I didn't catch. That said, I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Sadly, you're so, so right regarding Transformers.

I clearly liked it more than you, but I will say that Ice Age was also awesome, and you should definitely see it.
I watched the cartoon as a kid but even more than that, I read the comic books and was a big fan. It's times like these that make me wish I had no knowledge of the original creation because then I might have enjoyed the movie more.
I liked practically every part with Snake Eyes in it, though. Ray Park is my goddamn hero. Apparently, he's going to be Rugal in a KoF movie?! That should be interesting. I wonder if they'll pare down Rugal's fruitiness for it. Pencil mustache and mesh muscle shirt.. heh heh heh.

Did not like it, I did like Scarlett and Baroness though, they were both pretty hot.
I never followed the GI Joe action figure set. I'm wanting to see it for the entertainment, even if I think the suit concept is copied from IronMan.

I wasn't allowed to have a GI Joe toy as a kid because my mother did not find them suitable for a girl. Luckily the boys across the street had them.
They were about the size of Barbie Dolls and all looked alike, like a Ken doll in fatigues.
There were no individual characters that I recall, just the basic GI Joe soldier. If there was a comic book that went with the original I never saw it.
I found a picture of one online:

Just got back from the movie, Mike and I both liked it. Fun and lots of things blowing up.

I thought it was pretty good. Also, I was a super GI Joe nerd and had a shitload of action figures.
I only had one action figure (Baroness, because she taught me that a girl with glasses could be smokin') but I followed the comics for almost twenty years.

Don't go. It's not even entertaining but bad like Transformers. It's just awful. The dialogue is terrible, the actors make it worse. The CGI is piss poor and they use it when they don't need it (those apaches in the opening scene looked like 10 year old special effects). Pretty much everyone is poorly cast. The fights are about as badass as those guys who put fake lightsaber fights on youtube. It was near walk-out bad, my friend who I went with agreed on all counts. I can't warn you away from this piece of garbage enough.
Also although I did watch it as a kid the storyline changing didn't bother me, obviously they had to do that. The problem was the bad new storyline, not that they didn't stick with "canon".

Yeah that's true. Although I had a hard time buying the Sienna Miller/Channing Tatum romance. She looks like she's 10 years older than he is, I don't know what the actual age difference is.
EDIT: Actually he's about a year older than she is. She's only 27. I would say she looks closer to early 30s and he looks like he's in his early to mid 20s.

Oh I totally forgot the dumbest part of this movie (mild spoiler) near the end when they explode the ice pack and the ice starts to sink. Thanks GI Joe, I never knew that ice sank in water.

Haha that was awesome. Next was the nanomite weaponization process that just spun the warheads around for a few minutes. G.I.Joe science fails.
