I can get a 30-32" plasma or LCD for around $300-600, or a 30" monitor for $1000+.

Anyone here use a tv and do you like it better than a regular monitor?

I thought TVs had a lot lower contrast ratio or whatever. Pixels. I know my TV didn't work very well as a monitor, too hard to read text and whatnot.

It depends on what you will be using it for. Monitors have a higher refresh rate, natually. LCD, though, are usually set to 60 Hz, which is not a problem in most screens.

I am sure someone more knowing can explain in more detail.

Death to Plasma! LCD on the other hand rules all. 52" Flat Panel HiDef TV with build in Blue Ray DVDR-W and Cappuccino Maker... mmmm-drool...

It heavily depends on what you're going to mainly be using it for. Plasma is awesome for movies and special effects, but it sucks for showing text. LCD's are great for text, but are nowhere near as good as plasma's for movies and special effects. And DLP's are right in the middle between LCD and plasma.

I have a 37" LCD and it does the trick for movies, TV, games, and most importantly, playing GS in HD.

Most of the numbers are smoke in mirrors.

Prad.de, brand and specific models are important (not every model made by X brand is good or bad).

I'd avoid plasma if it's going to be on for more then a few hours a day (half life on the free radical is only like 3 years). I personally hate plasmas, but that's more of a subjective opinion.

LCD tends to be the best all around picture regardless of the content. Plasma does black better, LCDs do white better.

If the plugs are the same, and the important numbers (resolution, refresh rate, response time, viewing angle) are the same, there really isn't any difference between a "TV" and a "Monitor". Generally speaking though, TVs tend to sacrifice things like response time in favor of size. You'll get bad artifacting if the refresh rate, response time and input lag are too high.
