I was talking to one of my buddies the other day. If you somehow lost all your data (emails, hard drives, etc), what would you miss most?
Music? Pictures? Movies? Games? Email? Your GS characters? That one video with the chick and the german shepherd?
Discuss.

My wife's laptop was stolen when our house was broken in to a few years ago and it had all of our pictures from our wedding and honeymoon and many other events on it. Also had all our music. They also stole a CD case with 1/2 our DVDs in them.
Yes we were very upset, mainly about the pictures. But sometimes I want to watch a movie we had and i can't, which sucks.
Now we have a file server with monthly backups that go to my parent's house.
I'd be pissed at having to DL 3.1.3 again.
Nothing else.

The thought of losing it all is why I have redundant storage... including "offsite" (IE burnt DVDs at my parent's) ... although I haven't made an offsite backup in too long.

This thread reminded me it is time to update my backups.

I've got 32849903849023 of my MP3s and music files saved on like 15 discs. So I'd still be pissed about it if I had to install them all over again.
I already purged my GS logs, so ... Probably installing my MP3s all over again. And if Ratolin burned all of my CDs while I simultaneously lost all my data and was raped by an angry pack of just-escaped-from-the-zoo marmosets...

Pr0n, clearly.
Pr0n is difficult to backup at your parent's house, lest they discover your stash of bisexual midget n0rp.
or you discover theirs. :/

Ehhh, the porn is always there on the net if you need it. I'd hate losing my music collection, documents, and pictures. Luckily they're triple-redundant, so no worries.
Ok. So the porn is triple-redundant also, but I wouldn't really be mad if I lost it.

The pics are the only irreplaceable thing on mine. The music would be a pain in the ass- I mean who else has 100gb of John Tesh and Yanni live?

Music.
I think I might kill people if all my Suicide Commando/Grendel went missing. Kill. That shit gets me through my day.
(it would be baby pictures if I didnt compulsively copy all of them to 4gigs after every upload.)

I am currently living with this. I'm not sure yet if my hard drive is recoverable and won't know until I take it to my brothers to be operated on. I have all my music backed up and also on my phone. Pictures also burned and backed up on Shutterfly. I no longer game, so all of those files don't bother me. I'm missing my roboform immensely. :(
All the digital photos of the family. Music would be a pain in the ass to reload. Also my financial backups of taxes/accounts. And all my docs/spreadsheets I've worked up over the years on various projects.

That's what a raid controller and backups are for. Although I lost my fair share of hard drives before I learned that.
Mostly I'd be pissed about the time I have to spend putting it back. Everything else is easy to replace.

Music, photos, and phone numbers (if we are talking data other than computer related shit). Does anyone even memorize phone numbers anymore? I sure don't.

I still have my original 30g main working from my first build for myself in '99. I have it working as a swap/page and alternate storage.
I've been pretty lucky with hard disks.

Documents would be my thing. With my Youtube to MP3 converter, music is no longer an issue. Pictures all get uploaded to flickr and facebook, so those aren't an issue either. Everything else is replaceable.

It would be aggravating to re-record all of the youtube music I've turned into mp3s. Everything digital I'm sentimental about doesn't need to exist for me to be sentimental about it, but I would still probably miss the pic of Giltia flipping me off.
This is why I love my terabyte e-book. IT'S MY LIFE.

Bought a 500 gig to get all my crap off the rents comp, it was corrupted or fuxxored or something 'pardon me im tech-tarded' within a month, only of course after I deleted EVERYTHING off the rents comp. Ima hafta go with the consensus mp3's ftw...err loss?
