Facebook Messenger software?

Is there any reliable Facebook Messenger software out there that would make it so I don't have to leave an internet browser open and stare at the tiny box in the lower right corner for new messages?

Seems a lot of non-internet savvy people use it over AIM and I'd like to chat with some old friends, but my tendencies to close the internet browser or surf seem to get the best of me and I close the messenger in the process.

I tried a few of the ones that came up in my google search, but they were websites themselves.

I found that facebook plugin while checking when i saw your post too, was going to try it out before i went ahead suggesting it :)

Indeed, now that i've installed the facebook plugin it's pretty snazzy.

Though it scared the ever living shit out of me when it checked my friend feed, and when i launched pidgin claimed i had 75 new emails. (read the entire backlog as new messages, hah)

Trillian (the new beta version), but it seems you're all set up.

I've heard of Pidgin but I've been using Trillian for years and happy with it.

For some reason i never liked trillian....i tried it several times and I don't know what it was...i just didn't like it for whatever reason.

Until Digsby supports group chat, I'll continue to use Trillian.

Actually, just tried Trillian Astra, because you posted about it oin my FB... It doesn't support Facebook IMs though. Just Facebook status. Or is there another plugin I am missing.

I totally liked the Trillian interface more, because I been using Trillian Pro 3.1 for like 99 years, but I just want the Facebook stuff for IMing, not status stuff.

I'm pretty sure if you goto the misc options you can load facebook chat w/trillian astra

Trust me, there's an option for Facebook chat, in addition to getting updates from statuses and wall postings. Hell it handles Twitter too.

Go to your connections, then choose Facebook. Go into the settings, and then to Miscellaneous. Check the box for Connect to Facebook Chat and enter your login info.
