Ok, so, when I bought my home last year, the yard was in shambles. This year, we found out the reason was due to grubs infesting about 90% of the front lawn. So I think I got rid of the issue, however my lawn looks like total dog shit.
I only water once a day and I have TruGreen do treatments once every 4-6 weeks. But the grass is so dead looking. And on top of it all, I have like 3 types of grass in the front yard. So I'm curous... What can I do?
The only thing I'm thinking I can do is to till the whole yard and start fresh. I don't want to put a lot of money into the yard, but I live across the street from a retired landscaper, and everyone on the right of me have these gorgeous green lawns. I don't wanna be THAT house.

get some of the scott turf builder and spread it across your yard. we had a patch of dirt that refused to grow grass until we tried this stuff. works wonders.

Indiana. I believe we just have a sunny/shade mix. But I'm not sure. The stuff I put in this year where we had baldspots were sun/shade.
And holy crap, $1.25 for yankee's stadium sod would be pretty pricey for my yard.

Do a controlled burn at the end of fall. Sounds crazy but.. then do the turf builder or grass seed + fertilizer also in the fall.
This allows the seed to germinate and stuff during the winter. Its how we used to do it when I worked for parks and rec.

Yeah, this is what I planned on doing, well instead of a burn, just till/remove.
Before you rebuild your turf, you need to eliminate your grub problem, else it will just happen again. Also verify that grubs are the problem.

An interesting article dealing with grubs in your region.
Here in the gulf coast region, we have lots of sun and heat. Our primary common grass is San Augustine. When I have a dead spot (thatch), I usually rake it out, add some rich topsoil then seed with bermuda. Bermuda grows faster than San Augustine (carpet grass) and will hold the soil until the SA grass can grow in. If the area is very large then I'll sprig with SA along with seeding Bermuda.

Thanks Gan. Yeah, the orignal issue was the bald spots, so I removed the mossy stuff that was growing and I found all the grubs and that's whn I hired TruGreen. But TruGreen is a waste of cash. Never again will I use them.
I'll make sure the problem is gone and then apply those tips!

Bermuda is also drought resistant =).
