Best in the series. I was genuinely shocked at how much I enjoyed the adaptation of the book. The acting has continued to improve. The dialog, casting, and pacing of the story was extremely well done. The special effects were also top notch, the best in the series. I personally didn't care for the fifth movie, and was quite glad to see the series return to form.
If you aren't an HP fan you likely won't like it, but those that enjoy the books/films should definitely get out there and see it.

I did like it very much, and while I still cried at the ending, I would have preferred if they stuck to what really happened in the book. However, I think I was less upset by the change because i'd read about it before going to see the movie.

I have to completely disagree. It reminded me full well why I personally didn't like the sixth book. A whole lot of teenage hormonal angst, but with key plot elements that come at the very end. The whole movie I kept wondering "Alright, when are we going to turn this around into the dark and foreboding finish...." and it just flat out never happened. Character introduction is kept at a complete minimum under the expectation that viewers -have- read the books (which is completely understandable, what with the ground that needs to be covered), so if you're wondering why Fenrir is supposed to be scary, I hope you've either read your HP or your Nordic tales. Yet, the focus is so heavily weighted on the front end of the movie, that the important stuff just peters out at the end.
I will give Tom Felton and A+. For having only brief dealings in the last couple of movies, he really shines here. Emma Watson has finally learned to stop acting through her eyebrows, which was also a good plus. I'll agree, the acting was well done.
Loved the books, love the classical mythology that's interwoven into the books, but the movie was just 2.5 hours of dead weight for me. Goblet of Fire remains, hands down, my favorite movie adaptation. Some people will love it, but I just couldn't. Highly disappointing.

Well tbh, if they had to change it at all I probably think this is the best they could have done. I didn't think it was really bad or anything... just would have preferred the true ending.

A whole lot of teenage hormonal angst
Agreed completely, that's why the sixth book was my least favorite. It just felt like SO much filler. However I still enjoyed the movie because I expected it, and I realize that while I think it went overboard in the book as far as quantity, I know it was necessary to see these kids growing up.

Just got home...
Loved it.
I actually thought it was as dark as it should have been, the goofy hormanal agnst WAS funny. Ron under the love potion was hysterical. Bellatrix is hot I must say, and the acting has gotten far better.
Slughorn was actually how I pictured him in my mind's eye.
Really enjoyed as did the group i went with.

Loved the color palette. Actually enjoyed the hormonal angst parts. First half of the movie had really uneven pacing.
Sort of silly how the movie is called the Half-Blood Prince and they never touch on WHY Snape called himself that.
But otherwise good times.

Just got back from a midnight showing.
By far the best movie so far.
They added a scene that was unnecessary and will just frustrate HP fans.
I think they made the love interests too much of a part of the story to the detriment of other parts that should have been in there.
But all-in-all, I give it 4/4 Harry Potters. (and a herminoe, dobbie, and draco)

And I've always said Snape was never evil enough in the movies.
He's more playful and funny... more comic relief than evil...
Movie: Harry's messing around - Snape lightly smacks him on the head with a notebook.
Book: Harry's messing around - Snape threatens/tries to poison him.
At the end of the 6th book you HATE Snape. You feel sure that he is evil and has tricked Dumbledore all these years.
At the end of the 6th movie, you know Snape is good.

Amusing anecdote about last night. When we finally got past the previews and the "Coming next...your feature presentation!" screen, the background music kicked in with this europop/techno crap and I was like "Oh shit! This is the opening music for BRUNO!" Sure enough, we got about 30 seconds into Bruno, including the close up of his ass in his yellow lederhosen before the projection finally cut off. If they had gotten about 1 more minute in, I think a swarm of pre-teens and their parents would have gone riotous.
Intentional? Probably not. It had a showing at 10:15pm in that same room. Funny? God yes.

At the end of the 6th book you HATE Snape. You feel sure that he is evil and has tricked Dumbledore all these years.
At the end of the 6th movie, you know Snape is good.
I dont think the unread movie observer thinks Snape is good, unless you're referring to him stepping up in the place of Malfoy.
The books never completely divulged the complexity of the relationship between Dumbledore and Snape.
Snape, once a death eater always a death eater, double agent for Death Eaters while spying on Order of the Phoenix while spying on the Death Eaters?
Snape, undercover brother for the Order of the Phoenix?
Snape, playing both sides against themselves in order to survive while pining over his lost love (Harry's mom)?
In the end, love conquers all. And Dumbledore bet on love. ;)
PS. Saw the movie this afternoon, it was everything I had hoped for it to be.

I still have to see this movie, but I don't know if I'm going to find a girl who will A) legitimize me going into this movie and at the same time B) be someone I don't have to feign interest in so I can instead watch the movie.
Someone wanna send me a PM about how they changed the end in the movie? I thought the end of the book was pretty well executed, and HBP was by far my favorite book of the series.
Oh, and for the person who thought GoF was the best movie adaption - ugh. Voldemort coming back to life was faaaaaaaaar too rushed. IN the book, there's a delicious deadening of action, where the 10 minutes stretches into what seems like an eternity, because when the fucking Prince of Darkness comes back from practically the dead, you need every detail.
Favorite adaptive moment in the movies so far has been how they did the Death Eaters masks in Order of the Phoenix.

We don't all write HP Fan Fiction.
All I was trying to say was that the movie Snape would be instantly seen through by Voldemort and killed, anyone can see he's not on Voldemort's side, and CERTAINLY not his #1.
At the end of the 6th book however, even if you were very sure Snape was loyal to Dumbledore, if it had turned out in the 7th that he wasn't, I don't think you would have been too surprised.

Same.
IMO it was clear from the very beginning that Snape had a very important, good role that wasn't going to be revealed until the very end. At the end of reading HBP I was glad that his role WAS finally being revealed, but had he actually been some sort of evil and nefarious villain I would have been extremely shocked.

I believe the movie could have done alot less with the teenie-bopper lovefest and innuendo's that the movie was rife with. At times I just sighed before they were laying it on so thick.

That was a lot of people's complaint about the book as well. They didn't play up that aspect of the film any more than it was respresented in the book. The book just had a lot more time to develop multiple plotlines, where the film was trying to squeeze everything in at once. I can certainly understand the complaint. That book wasn't my favorite either. I still believe they did a great job recreating it on film, though.

Aside from the disturbing picture above, I would would have to agree that the Luna character has been pretty solid through the last couple of movies. Adding a level of humor that is strangely engaging in an awwr, look at that sort of way.
Speaking of love interests, maybe the reason why Harry really hasn't hooked up in the films was due to the actors penchant for horses?

It's like people forgot about the book and how MUCH of it actually contained love/lust bullshit. To think that they wouldn't add it to a movie about teenagers is beyond silly. Think they put in too much? Perhaps but they cut it down considerably from what was detailed and outlined in the book.

Obviously, I can't speak for the whole country, but I'd say that, at least among my demographic, more people grew up reading Where The Wild Things Are than did not.

Speaking of trailers... the Avatar the Last Air Bender preview was.... smexy
Have to say one of the best parts of going to see that movie was the trailer for "Where The Wild Things Are". Not only did it floor me they were adapting that book to a film, but the trailer itself just got everyone I saw around me smiling.
Seriously good job on the costume and the casting on the kid. Hope that snippet of a preview is anything of what the real movie will be like.
My fiance turned to me and said "Look! A movie for furries!"
lolz.
That said, I really enjoyed the HP movie, even though some of the scenes felt like they were only included for comic relief. I can understand why they included them... after all, when it comes down to it, it IS a kid's movie/book, buuuut... I just wish some of the parts had been a bit more serious.

Maybe I'm strange, but I thought it would be a good idea to make a TV series from the books... Each book is a season, and just have every line and every situation from each book in there. The 1st and 2nd might need some filler or you could make them both into a single season.
Might be interesting to see. And instead of having a Harry that goes from 13 to 16 overnight between the 2nd and 3rd movies, could see em grow up. And they could build Hogwarts (some parts anyway) and film it in there so we don't have the ridiculous 'moving staircases' in some movies and not in others...
I am strange, but I'd watch it.
