Im doing it right now . . .
At first it drives you fucking crazy but then you just get over it . .
Seriously. Its really mental. . . its hard to imagine you wont need a cig and it feels good not to, huh?
Just keep thinking about how crap that smoke will make you feel when you give in to temptation . . and the one after that too.
Dont think silly shit like . . .' Oh just one cigarrette , it wont count.'
Thats fucking weak . . and I know your far from that . . chin up.

I think it's great that you're going to quit smoking. Tobacco companies should rot in the hottest hubs of hell for producing, willfully producing and marketing a product that they know will kill the user at least 1/3rd of the time.

Every time you put a cig up to your mouth and start to light it, think of this.....

The last thing I did for my best friend and partner at work was to take him to a hospital so he would not die from lung cancer in the house his wife and kids were living in. He smoked two and three packs of day he said since was around 15 years old.

As my new partner and I pulled my friend off the ambulance cot and on to the hospital bed, my friend coughed of once last time all the fluid in his lungs and chunks of lung tissue. It was a nasty way to go and I beg anyone who smokes not to put someone you care about through something like that. That is the biggest reason why I am no longer a paramedic.

Think about it every time you start to light up. I wish you the best of luck.

I'm hoping it's going to be a lot easier to quit smoking when I'm not around people that aren't quitting.

I just can't wait to start hacking up the tar. That'll be fun..!

It's easy. Don't be a weakling. I quit in August and haven't looked back. Oh, and be sure to make fun of people who smoke. It'll make you feel better about yourself, and remind you how stupid it is. Disregard the feelings of hypocracy!

Yeah, its fucking hilarious to drown that fetus in smoke.

Bah, why quit?

I say if you wanna stop, you should have never started, but now that you've started, why throw so much work to destroy your lungs away?

Its kinda like how i viewed people that went to rehab, no one likes a quitter, and rehab is for quitters... DONT BE A QUITTER!!!

No, I won't.

And as for why quit... I can give you a lot of reasons. Here's some.

1. Money.
2. I hate the smell.
3. I find the habit mostly disgusting.
4. I hate that I can't breathe.
5. I have better things to do with my time.
6. I'm trying to get rid of all my self-destructive behaviors. This being one of the last ones I have.
7. I don't live with 2-pack a day smoker, or with someone that thinks my quitting is an amusement and that it's funny to tease me into smoking again.
8. It's a challenge.

Heh. She should just be slapped across the face.

I don't think quitting smoking would be nearly as 'difficult' for me if I was doing it for someone else... like a child. That makes it literally life or death.

I would gladly "done put some knots all over her forehead", but the Army has this hangup about striking NCO's.

Its a shame you cant just kill people you dont like. I mean, as long as you cleaned up the mess and everything, who the fuck cares?

I quit the day I found out I was pregnant, a little over four years ago. Then, about 3 years later, when my husband and I split up, I started again.

I've since quit, and I feel a ton better. Take it one day at a time.

And I didn't cough up a thing. You may be lucky, depending on how much you were smoking. I was just under a pack a day.

Depends on my surroundings.... the amount I smoke.... and stress levels.

I got lucky. When I was a kid my folks brought me to a science museum. They had a display of three autopsied and preserved lungs. One healthy, one from someone died of lung cancer, one from someone died of emphysema. The second two were the nastiest shit I'd ever seen. I figured ain't NO fucking way I'd ever smoke and have my lungs look like that.

Why don't you go back to crying yourself to sleep?

I shouldn't say anything adverse... you might delete the post/thread AGAIN...

Now, to the serious part.

Maimara, Beth, good luck to you.

It's really tough. I've watched so many people fail. Just really focus on how much better off you'd be without the cancer sticks.

Find something that takes your mind off stuff too. My friend quit around ten times, but it wasn't until he went jogging that he finally beat it. He said it cleared his mind.

We're pulling for you!

I was actually debating that as I was writing it Latin. Guess I chose the wrong one. Also, I saw in another post (can't remember where) of a person's name ending in "s" that had an apostrophe + S after it. Found that odd. My name always appears as Wezas', etc.

Quitting smoking was literally the hardest thing I ever did. I tried cold turkey but it didn't work at all for me. Eventually, using a combination of the patch, a nicotine inhaler for 'emergencies' and giving myself permission to 'cheat' every once in a while if I felt I absolutely had to, I became nicotine free after six months.

So my advice is: slow and steady and succeeding is better than failing because you tried to follow some predetermined schedule.

Also, stay away from smokers. The smell of a cigarette made me want to jump in someone's lap and give them mouth to mouth just to get some second hand smoke. It also took me two years after that to stop wanting a cigarette.

Raven

Betheny
03-01-2004, 03:31 PM
Yeah this cold turkey thing isn't working.

I don't smoke that much to begin with, probably 5 or 7 cigarettes a day. I figure if I go get one pack and just hoarde it, let myself have 2 or 3 a day, then it'll be easier to make myself go down to 1 or none a day... etc.

I really don't like how unbalanced I become when I"m nicotine deprived. Plus I'm unders stress. Mmm... stress. It's a miracle I haven't ripped out my hair yet.

Ravenstorm
03-01-2004, 03:44 PM
Yeah, I cut down as well before I went on the patch. Course, I was up to almost two packs a day and had smoked for a good fifteen years or so so I /really/ had a habit to break.

Hope you have an easier time of it.

If Bill is quitting, too, you two can really help each other. Just the support of someone near you who understands can make it a lot easier, I understand.

However, I have been told that times of high stress are not good times to try to quit smoking, since that is just adding more stress. Is there anything you can do to reduce the stress level so it will be easier for you?

HarmNone, worrying...again

My brother switched from chew to the "bandits" (difficult to explain without it sounding like he was sucking on a teabag full of chew). Be careful in VA with those, Peam. He got pulled over because his passenger opened the door at a stoplight to spit.

My brother got a ticket for not controlling his passengers.

I quit pot just on a whim, when I went to college.

It's not hard. I don't know if you consider marijuana less addictive than nicotene, but like someone previously said, it's all mental.

You just have to realize - there is no way that cigs make your life better. None. It was that, which helped me quit "smokin' them marijuana cigarettes.................reeeeeeeeeeeeeefer!"

the cigarette companies shouldn't be held accountable. should a knife company be held accountable if someone kills themself with a knife? no. there are assumed risks when using products. it's not exactly a secret that cigarettes are bad.

The comparison of tobacco companies to knife manufacturers is a fallacious one.

Knives have the potential to be used in a variety of ways, most of them good.

Tobacco is a product that does nothing but addict consumers and harm their health.

TheEschaton

But it takes the edge off.

Alcohol is the same exact way, but no one is suing the alcohol companies.

In fact, I'd wager that much more people die from alcohol-related problems, than nicotene-related problems.

People don't die from the nicotine. People die from the deadly poisons in the cigarettes. Nicotine is just a stimulant, like caffeine.

To the idiot that said cigarettes kill less people than alcohol, i give you this.

Tobacco use remains the single most preventable cause of death in the United States. More than 400,000 Americans die each year from tobacco-related disease.

Someone dies from smoking every 72 seconds.

Smoking causes more deaths than alcohol, AIDS, illegal drugs, car crashes, fires, murders, and suicides combined.

Smoking kills via cancer.

However, cancer is not a disease solely produced by cigs. Nor is it a deadly, and dangerous thing to people who don't have cancer.

Smoking one cigarette cannot kill you (as far as I know).

Drinking one drink can.

I'd say people who drink in public are much more of a public menace than cig smokers.

5 cigs a day?? That seems like such a small amount, its weird that its still hard to quit that small amount.

For the comparison of weed to tobacco, there is no comparison. Ive quit weed and it was incredibly easy after i found a way to fall asleep at night. That was my biggest problem with quitting weed and i smoked ALOT of weed. Basically i woke up at noon and smoked with my friends til 2am or so darn near daily. Meanwhile ive tried quitting cigs so many times ive lost track and failed everytime so far. Eventually i know i will win that war too, just dont know when. The neat thing about quitting weed was i had so much money i didnt know what to do with it, i hope i have the same problem if i can quit smoking.
