View Full Version : Surgery Day
Finally getting the knee worked on today.
Doing a transplant ACL (zombie knee!).
Fixing a tear in the medial meniscus.
Removing scar tissue impeding flexion on lateral side.
Not looking forward to rehab, unless my therapist is a hottie. Odds are high that she is.
Update later, bonus if I'm still on pain meds.

Good luck man... And don't forget to post the pic of your therapist. My money is on a middle aged guy, slightly overweight and balding.

Ouch! Good luck! My parents' dog just got her ACL redone. She's had a tough time with the recovery.

Good luck, Gan. I've been doing PT on my left knee for the past 2 months now, and your point is valid.

Had surgery on my right knee when I was a teenager. Been a decade and if I stay up to long, it hurts like fuck.
Also hurts like hell when I squat down all the way and try and get back up.
I had the growth plates on my femur/tib/fib destroyed.
Good luck on yours, dont pull out the invisible stiches like I did on accident - leaves huge scars.

Sweet, now if you ever get mugged IRL you can block all the knife stabs with your knee.
I doubt a common thug would have a blessed knife, so you're fine.

Ooooh, evil, evil Tisket! Let's do EEET!
Seriously, hope everything goes well, and hang tough on the PT. As my sadistic therapist said while torturing my poor shoulder, 'No pain, no gain!" But the PT sure works! Whine and beg for drugs...they like that.

Good luck on the surgery. Pics of the therapist are required. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a bouncy blonde fresh out of college.

Good luck, man.
I call dibs on poking you with a stick and calling you gimpy when you're hobbling around afterwards.

I dated a physical therapist for a bit (of the cute asian variety, not bouncy blonde)
I didn't get one massage out of it. Fucking bullshit.

Godammit. This is the first time I've even heard of someone getting a cruciate ligament transplant.
See if you can get a titanium knee like in that Steven Seagal movie "Half Past Dead" that I definitely did not watch.

I feel your pain, I fully dislocated the shit out of my knee in 2005. Traumatic experience to say the least.

Good luck Gan! Make sure you take full advantage of your wife's professional role for as long as you can drag it out. Spongebaths and massages, plz. :D

Aw, anesthesia is the best part of surgery! Especially if they lay that warm blanket on you. Mmm instant sleep.

GOD.
I wish I knew which hospital. Before you wake up I could deck out your room to look like TSC so when you do wake up all groggy on morphine you might say....'Can I get some healing?'
And then throw acorns at your head and completely ignore you while I meditate my scars away.
And then when the real nurse comes in and starts doing vitals and fidgeting with your machines I will go 'SHHHHH, SCREEN SCROLL.'

Back at home.
Post surgical synopsis:
ACL transplant went ok, removed torn portion of medial meniscus - I have 30% left in the knee, removed massive amounts of scar tissue on lateral side and afterwards achieved 125 degrees range of motion whereas before I had 90 to 100 degrees. Not too thrilled about the large loss of the meniscus; however, having the range I have been missing since high school has my really psyched.
I am on a new vicodin derivitive that has half the acetomeniphin of normal vicodin but the same amounts of hydrocodine. Same great high and easy on the liver!!!
Preop went pretty smooth, they performed a nerve block on the femoral nerve, which will wear off in a few hours now.
I've got several types of braces that I have on, along with a cryo-cuff and a CPM machine that I'm using.
Thanks for all the well wishes folks. I'm really jazzed about having more stability again with the new ACL and definately jazzed about having greater range.
And LOL JS, you get rep for that once the timer resets.
