I'm curious. Someone called me OCD today about it. I check my email about 3-5 times a day. I respond to anything ASAP that needs a response. I also have my two important emails linked to my phone and have my phone set to check for email every 2 hours.

(edit) I check my work email every hour I'm there in the office.

I guess what kills me is when I know people are on their computer, but don't check the email for days. Drives me absolutely batshit crazy.

I check my work e-mail at home 3 or 4 times a day during the week and about 7 or 8 times a day on the weekends. I check my personal e-mail every 2 or 3 weeks.

I check my personal e-mail every 2 or 3 weeks.

Man, this would create so much nerd rage from me.

I'll check my email maybe once or twice a week. My work email I check constantly at work, but my job kinda requires me to.

I'm as bad with messages on my phone tho. I can go weeks without ever checking my voicemail, I really only check to see who I missed a call from.

Mine is constantly running in the background on both my computers at work and at home. If I don’t respond then I’m not at either place.

I always have Outlook open at work. I only check my work e-mail at home when there's something urgent going on.

I check my personal e-mail maybe once a week, since I usually only get bills and things via e-mail. I still do the face-to-face or phone thing to stay in touch.

I have both work and personal EMail open at all times, and both get sent to my Blackberry.

I'd say I check about once every half hour, both accounts. I get roughly 75-100 actual EMails (IE, not newsletters, junk, or advertising), about 30 of which I respond to in a given day.

Hey, I have an EMail now...

I have notifications on my firefox, whenever I see a star there, I check it. Just not right away.

I have my mail open always, and probably am OCD about checking it. I've never counted, but at least 5 times an hour while I sit here..

always empty.

A few times a day and I'm the same way, always try to be quick on response. Not really OCD, I prefer to have good communication skills and label stuff is always to be handled prompt anyhow.

All the freaking time. If I'm not doing anything else important or engrossing online, I find myself constantly checking it. Otherwise I try to check it every hour or two.

Personal email: once a day
Work email: on a constant basis while I'm at my desk, never if I'm not.

I always attempt to reply as soon as I can, unlike my asshole "friend" in Nigeria who still hasn't sent me that money I'm supposed to hold onto for him...

I am notified when I receive various emails, and on 3 accounts I try to answer within the hour. One or two accounts are checked once a week.

I never check my yahoo account, that's for signing up for websites which I'm sure will spam me.

But yeah, I don't know how you guys can't check your email constantly. I need to because if I get buried by 10 or legit emails, and I need to respond to one, I'll move on in the interest of reading the other EMails....and I'll forget. I need to respond almost instantaneously for me to remember it. Otherwise, I miss meetings and so on, so forth.

I get all my school stuff sent to my personal e-mail, so I only check the official school e-mail once every other day or so (it's not forwarded, I just give out my personal e-mail to those from school who e-mail me often). I check my personal e-mail around 1-5 times a day, depending on how much i'm home that day. Can be much more if i'm waiting for something, or i'm just home on the computer and bored. I don't always respond to stuff immediately, sometimes it can take me a couple of days if it's not urgent, i'm busy, and/or I don't feel like taking the time to think about my response right then. I don't have a phone that receives my e-mail though, and I don't have any sort of notifications to alert me to a new mail.

I keep my MSN up which shows my Hotmail address, I have google notification on the taskbar that follows that and I have my facebook inbox forwarded to my Cell phone which I have always.

I check my computer constantly.

about 1x a week if it's random; more if I'm expecting something.

My professors, however, are good about posting announcements, and I'm in contact with my mentor several times a week anyway.

Wow, I guess I check mine really often. I have my work mail to check every 10 minutes on my workstations in the office and at home. If I get anything I usually try to respond ASAP. I also have my phone set to check every 30 minutes and I wish I had push updates so that I could find out faster without killing my battery. My personal email (gmail) sends push updates to my phone so I know when I get mail almost instantly, but I do most of my organizing at a proper terminal.

I use gmail, and it's ALWAYS open on any net-capable machine I'm sitting at. I work in front of a comp all day, and I play in front of one at home most of the time (laptops ftw), so I check my email about once every...10 seconds, give or take.

If I notice the gmail tab on Firefox change to show I have an unread email in my inbox, I check it.

I never check my yahoo account, that's for signing up for websites which I'm sure will spam me.

Heh, that's what I use my Yahoo! address for, too :)

I use Trillian and Pidgin depending on the computer (I use 4 different ones regularly), they tell me when I get email, then I check it if I have the time

Maybe once a day or so.

At work I have Outlook open the entire time I'm there because I [personally] need to respond to everything when I receive it. I just hate waiting for answers so I never want to be the one who delays things because I didn't reply soon enough.

I use Trillian and it tells me when I have personal email anyway, so if there is something worth reading, I'll get it but otherwise it waits til I get home.

Work: Constantly on work days, once a day otherwise.
Home, Primary: Every other day or so
Home, Junk: Once a month

I'd say once a week is about my average. Sometimes less. But I only have one friend, whom I just call, and don't get emails for work. So I may not be a good person to check yourself by.

I check my home email once a month if I remember, my work email is checked constantly while at work thanks to outlook. Sometimes I forget to open it though, and I can go all day without noticing.

When I am at my desk, I will see all new incoming mail via Outlook.

When I am not at my desk, I will see all new incoming mail via my Blackberry.

I receive all new personal e-mail every 15 minutes via iPhone.

I seriously have no clue how someone can check their personal e-mail once every couple of weeks. I am definitely OCD about reading and responding to e-mail.

What is strange about that, though, is that I rarely listen to personal voicemails and commonly ignore incoming personal calls unless a person calls me twice (or I legitimately want to talk to the person calling).

What is strange about that, though, is that I rarely listen to personal voicemails and commonly ignore incoming personal calls unless a person calls me twice (or I legitimately want to talk to the person calling).I'm the same way. After working customer support, I really can't stand being on the phone, so I tend to ignore the phone and messages. My husband yells at me to listen to my messages. I don't see the point, since the only people I get messages from are CVS (to pick up my prescriptions), school counselors (who also send emails saying the exact same thing), or doctor appointment reminders (which I keep on my phone and in tasks in Outlook). I don't NEED to hear anything.

Work email is open constantly, box refreshes every 5 minutes, a majority of my work revolves around giving/receiving information via email with realtors.

Personal and other business emails are copied to blackberry so I can scan for important ones. I have regular email, game email, and spam email accounts. All of which eventually make it to my home PC for permanent storage/review/filing or deleting.

I check my personal email 2x a day; once when I get to work and once right before I go to bed.

I check my work email whenever I get a notification saying "You have a new message."

I always answer my phone. If I don't want to talk to whoever it is I have no problem hanging up but I always answer.

I'm honestly surprised how little some people check their email.

At work for work email i'll have my outlook open, i get it as you send it. I have my web browser open with the gmail plugin, checks every 10 minutes or so for me on my 3 gmail accounts (personal casual, personal serious, random video game accounts). My old AOL account i've had forever, i have my chat client (Pidgin) connected to that, so that checks every few minutes.

The only thing that changes is if i'm home, i don't have my outlook client running.

Regardless of where I am my phone has all 5 of the main accounts I use. Push for work so I get them as you send them, the others are checked every 30 minutes automagically.

The only one I don't check constantly is the address I use when signing up for websites that get spammed like 500 messages a day :)

Shit my last major job as ops manager / IT director required me to have email open the entire day. I'd literally get 300+ emails a day from clients and in office bullshit.

Now I check my resume gmail at least 5 times a day and my yahoo once usually in the morning.

I don't know how you guys do it. I couldn't stand all that. I don't like to be that connected to people.

Hell, I've gone long periods of time without even having a phone. Home or cell. Send me a letter if it's that important.

I can't wait until I can live on the side of a mountain away from everybody.

While at work I have Thunderbird on my second monitor and I see emails as they arrive.

At home, I have Thunderbird on my Government computer, so basically 24x7 on the work email. I also have various systems send me email to my Blackberry, but only the important shit hits that. Things that need to be resolved immediately.

For personal, I have the gmail notifier for my mail email and Trillian for the shit email accounts like AOL and Yahoo. If they go off telling me I have an email, I check it immediately.
