Greetings.
Seeing as how the PC has become embroiled in an awful lot of serious political discussions and things of that nature -- I thought I'd create a thread where those of us who are sick of that kind of crap to... whatever. Talk about anything BUT politics? Thanks.
BTW... Say whatever. But don't make this a political thread. Give me some repreive.
For starters, um... I guess we'll talk about... uh. Movies. Anyone seen any good movies lately? I've been meaning to go see 'Miracle' but haven't yet...

People are so touchy about their politics.
Maimara, you seen the preview for "Dawn of the Dead" (2004)? I posted it in a totally unrelated folder and it looksk pretty kick ass if you like scary movies.

And since we're on the topic of movies, anyone seen the whole paris hilton one? (not the night vision one). It's pretty funny.

I saw a commercial for it on television... or maybe it was a preview on a DVD we watched. It looks awesome. But I'm a sucker for zombie flicks.
Uh... anyone see house of 1000 corpses? I've heard both ways on it... good and bad...
chop sticks kick ass dude, they have so many uses... like feeding my mantis shrimp! That isn't my shimp but he looks just like it, anyway, they got this claw time thing that they use to spear prey, or shatter glass of aquariums... he also uses it to tap on the glass of my tank to tell me he's hungery...

I saw on the food channel that you're supposed to put the bowl up to your mouth and shovel it in with the chop sticks. Same with soup... and that's how you're SUPPOSED to do it. So who needs to invent spoons and forks if you're just eating/drinking it outta the bowl!

AH HA! Something I can answer without getting flamed I think. When I lived in Japan we called the rice there 'sticky' rice, because it all stuck together, making it easy to eat with chopsticks.
Maybe Chopsticks were meant only for Sticky Rice (TM pending)?

This is true. Like the miso soup I get a lunch, people just drink right from the bowl. The rice bowl gets picked up, and my coworkers inhale it in three bites. It's like no matter how much rice is in the bowl, it's gone in three deft maneuvers with the sticks.
SuppaHobbitMage is right too. The rice is sticky. It's like a medium/short grain, and it all clumps together. That, and the fact that the bowl is an inch from your mouth make it really easy to eat.
By the way, where in Japan did you live Suppa?

20/200 really is not that bad, depending on how well your eyes accommodate.
you can be anything from minor say -1.00 sph to -4.00. (leaving out a cylinder) still not a real big deal once you get glasses and wear them on a regular basis you will think your vision is getting worse but it is only the muscles relaxing and getting used to having good vision

I can get it that I can get as much rice on a pair of chopsticks as a fork, but it has nothing like the staying power as rice-on-a-fork. Which means I have to hunch over my rice and hold it up to my face, practically. This leads to a few problems:
1) Osama-like goatee hanging down into my rice. Not kewl.
2) I've got bad posture as it is.
3) My back is a chronic pain-above-my-ass.

Ani DiFranco is the best Buffalo musician, not the Goo Goo Dolls. The Dolls don't even deserve national attention.

If you have a P2P file sharing program, try searching for Chappelle Show episodes, I've downloaded a few myself.

Nah. They said they'll know in a week or so.
They have to do a background check and when that's done, I have to take a UA... no problem there. They're doing a lot of hiring for summer, and they're hiring everybody all at once, so they can do one orientation course and be done with it. So, I gotta wait a little bit. Which sucks. But the job will be worth it.
I was tempted to throw a political comment in this thread just so someone could accuse me of being off topic. I am a rebel.

It's been tried, they went down in flames.

I wonder if Edine looks at this thread at all. My mind is wandering again...

I got a pretty intense set up, it's a 125 gallon tank, have a 30 gallon filter sump, and another 30 gallon refugium tank. It's got metal halide lighting, 120 pounds of live rock, corals, fish, inverts.
I love my tank. It's so interesting and calming... I'm always gettin lost in it, checkin out all the things that grow on the live rock, the coral, the fish... and all the little critters that run around in the tank like star fish, snails, hermit crabs. People that come over always compliment me on it too. It was a huge chunk of money to put together though, I coulda gone to a state college for a year for what I put into this thing.... but I like it, so what ;p
How much do you have invested in a setup like that. I was considering getting a saltwater aquarium setup.
I've got about 5-6 thousand dollars in it

I want an aquarium... I'd like a saltwater one, but -- aren't they harder and more expensive to take care of?
I guess that kind of investment pays off if you get the enjoyment out of it you seem to.

Yes. But the fish you can put in them are quite beautiful.

That was my reasoning... colorful fish. And they have longer life spans, too, if I'm understanding correctly.
I have a love affair with clown fish... though anemones kind of freak me out. You don't have to have anemones to have clown fish though, I don't think. I've seen them in pet stores without anemones.
secret to keep saltwater good tanks.... reverse osmis water, and 20% water changes every month.
I do about 20 gallons of my total 170 gallons every 4-5 weeks, the refugium helps alot with keepin nitartes, and phosphastes under control. The refugium is a seperate tank full of different kinds of macro algea which use the nitrates and phosphates to grow. It keeps my water pretty much perfect. The reason I change water is alot of the trace elements in the waterget used up quick, like calcium, iodine, strodium.... basicly changing water keeps all those trace elements up to par.
if your just gonna set up a fish only tank you don't have to worry about that stuff so much. it's when you move to the reef tank that you have to keep a good eye on all of the perviously mentioned.

Yah but wouldn't you want to give your clownfish a lovely place to nest? I think anemones are badass myself. I respect most things that can sting you like a bitch if you try and mess with them.
I'd love to have a huge aquarium. Saltwater would be even more awesome. If I ever opened up a resturant, I'd have in the waiting lounge so my guests could have something to view while waiting for their table.

Your tank sounds wonderful, Meos! Watching fish, and other sea creatures, is so relaxing. Just hearing you talk about yours makes me want one of my own. Perhaps, once everything settles down around here, I shall look into getting one. :)

I do 20% water changes monthly as well. The fish are doing really well.
When we get settled one day we plan to get a 200 gallon. Not sure about salt water yet. We love our angels and such.

ah aquariums...they sure can be relaxing
sounds like you have a very nice setup, Meos
anyone that wants some colorful fish but doesn't want to step up to saltwater should try africans. Only thng is they are so aggresive the only fish you can have in the tank are other africans. we did a tank of frontosia's before we had a baby.
watching mouth breeders mate and produce fry is amazing...

It snowed two days ago, which almost never happens here. AND it sticked. So kids were out making snow men.
Well its almost three days, the snow was gone two days ago, but the damn snow men are still there!!! How does that happen?? It was so warm out today we didn't need coats. But , they aren't even melting yet.
Stubborn snowmen.

The last bits of snow at the curbs just melted here...the last time we had snow was early January. There was a string of 60-65 days a week or so ago, and it was still there.
of course, it gets to be like a giant rock after a little while.

What size tank are you considering? And do you want marine or freshwater?
Believe it or not, the bigger the tank, the easier the care. But more money up front :P

I think the larger tanks are awesome and I have had smaller tanks that were just a pain in the butt. I think freshwater because the idea of setting up a marine one intimidates me although the fish are amazing. But in order to do either I need to do some serious furniture rearranging.

I would suggest 20+ gallon then. Freshwater fish are beautiful too, just make sure you don't get any that attack/eat eatch other. Think of those fishbowls in GS :D
The average rule is 1 inch of fish per gallon of water, so when you fish shop (a lot sell young fish) go by their adult size. I've seen people buy the young fish (say 1-2 inches long) for a 20 gallon and they get like, 12 of them. That already is to much, and then they grow and grow. :(
Don't get fish all at once, the good bacteria that helps keep the water clean needs time to grow, so just get 2 or three to start with (assuming you go 20 or so gallons) then every few weeks you can add more if you want.
Fish are fun!
