Hey PC,
So similar to what I did in January with the marathon in Phoenix, I've signed up for another season with Team in Training, the fundraising arm of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The only difference this season is that I've been assigned to a leadership position (as a "mentor"), meaning that I'm in charge of 10 other runners--making sure they adhere to the training, fundraising, etc. My group will be running the Marine Corps Marathon on October 25th in DC.
For those of you that know me, you know that this is an extremely important organization to me. My grandmother, still alive and kicking, has been fighting NHL (non-hodgkins lymphoma) since being diagnosed in 1998. Part of the reason she's still able to needlepoint me Christmas decorations is due to the money TNT is able to raise to help support additional R&D.
The economy is horrid right now, and I'm aware of that. I'm not even asking for people to donate (unless they feel compelled). However, over the next couple months I'll be selling silvers at an inflated rate (probably $10/million). If you're so inclined, I'd appreciate the business. I'll then take that money and make the donation for the PC.
Being involved with TNT & LLS has become like a second job for me. I probably spend 25-30 hours a week participating in some capacity, and I've already made arrangements to sign up for another season in December. I know very few people who haven't been affected by blood cancer in some capacity, and I welcome your support in any capacity. Even a PM to say "Good luck" is awesome. Also, feel free to pass the link below to anyone else you think might donate. For all the crap that we sling back and forth at one another, I thoroughly enjoy the people I've met through this forum, and I thank you all.
You can follow my progress through this link (and try to refrain from making fun of my hair too much in some of these photos): http://pages.teamintraining.org/nyc/corps09/RunRobRun
