Anyone else doing the beta weekends? I'm actually really enjoying this game so far. I'd have to say that my biggest complaints are 1) the compass rotates, and 2) how you have to "locate" shit for your quests (there aren't markers on the compass for whatever quest you have selected).

The next beta "weekend" is this week. Starts Wednesday and runs through Monday I think. If you run to GameStop and spend the $5 to preorder the game, you get a code which allows you to download the game online. Unfortunately it's huge and takes hours even on cable, but it's so worth it. The game is fun as shit. And after this weekend, I think there are 2 or 3 more through July & August before the game comes out in Sept. Plus you can spend $5 now to see if you like the game rather than $50 in September.

I don't know what Lineage is, but there was only half a level where J and I ran out of quests (12.5-13 I think) and we had to grind. But it didn't take long cuz our pair grinded lvl 15-17s, and we got decent gear for it too.

What do you find so appealing about Aion? I haven't seen or heard much that was positive personally. That, like most things is fairly subjective though.

I like the combat, I like the graphics, I love how Asmodia especially looks, the flying is fun, the quests don't really seem to get tedious (at least not yet), etc etc. I even like playing a healer (cleric) in this game, and I never like that in other MMOs. And my main pwns the shit out of stuff.

And it's the first MMO in quite awhile that both J and I like to play, so it's something we can play together, which is really nice.

Character customization is pretty top notch. You can stylize your gear in a GS-esque way if you don't like how a certain weapon/armor looks. Graphics and controls look to be awesome, which make the gameplay that much better. The soundtrack is pretty quality.

Agreed. The only issue I have with the controls is the stuff I mentioned in the first post - about the quest locators and the compass. And the combat music is pretty awesome too.

Hmm, I haven't heard any of that. Actually, I have heard just about the complete opposite of everything you stated. The only things I've heard that were bad about the game were some of the emotes when talking with NPCs were off/bad. Same with crafting skills.

I think there are a few F2Ps that you can get wings. You could also fly in shadowbane.

I've basically played every MMO on the market for atleast a weekend with the exception of some of the dumber looking F2Ps. I expected to give Aion a shot as long as they offer a free trial without buying the software, most of the mmo folks I talk to weren't impressed though.

I'll have to ignore them and try it I guess.

What kind of treasure/loot system do they have in this game? Is it set drops per zone, or does it have a world database it draws on based off of mobs?

What keeps me in GS is the randomized gear in the boxes, and something variable like in D2 would sell me hook line and sinker.

Perfect World allows flight from the start with whatever lame race has the wings on their heads (elf something?)

I won't be in for Beta Event 4. Have plans tomorrow and Sunday, so I thought it would be pointless to preorder this weekend. I will be in for the August event though.

I played Aion this past weekend.

It definitely seems to be full of potential... the bigger question is "end-game content" (which as we know in WoW is Raids).

Graphics are better... combat *actually* feels like combat (no hitting the mob 3 times and it's dead as in WoW), where each fight can last a minute.

Experience penalty if you die... this will be HUGE in detering casual play (oh, we'll just zerg this thing, and if we die, no big deal).

Intermixing exp penalties with death ... and PvP ... will seem to infer that people will stay grouped up, for both leveling (it will NOT be easy to just solo your way) and higher-level adventuring.
