View Full Version : (Im)practical use of batter barriers
At what rank can I use batter to open boxes? Not practically, but when is it possible?
Also, roughly how much HP does a mithril box have? Those are the strongest, right?
Finally, does my rank affect how likely I am to damage/destroy the contents of the box?
Thanks!

Unfortunately, IIRC, the damage/time it takes to bust open a box is directly proportional to the size of the lock not the material of the box.
It makes little to no sense.
I don't think you can ever damage the contents of the box unless you set a trap off.

lock size is the main determinant of how hard it is to bash open a box, but material does seem to play a role. a sturdy mithril box that is of the same lock difficulty as a rotting maoral box will be noticeably harder to open.
AFAIK you can start bashing boxes open from rank 1, but it's been a long time since I had 1 rank, so I may be off on that. definitely very early on.
and yes, you CAN destroy contents of the box. it'll always have a chance to happen. you can't destroy special shit like armor, weapons, clothing. it's statues, gems, and I believe jewelry that has a chance to get destroyed. for reference, I'm skilling up in batter barriers right now, so I bash all my own boxes. maybe once out of every ten or fifteen boxes, something will break (you get a message about broken pieces of an unknown origin being mixed in). you'll never know what it was that broke.

I would absolutely love to see where you saw that special shit is unbreakable. I asked the exact same question like 3 months ago in the warrior folder and didn't really get a great response. I think about all I got was from other players saying everything was game to be broken.
Heh, so my very first box, I bash it once and set off a glyph trap.
Oops.
I have 1x Perception. If I manage to fit 1x Disarm in there, will I be able to see like-level traps? I don't expect to disarm them, but I'd like to not blow myself up.

I think you'd be fine with 1x perception/disarm. Especially, under 40. Around 80, you might need to bump one or another.

I'd love to discover it again too, but the official forums are fucking terrible, and I doubt I'd be able to easily find it again. that tidbit is going off what I remember to be true, and could certainly be me just misremembering.

I would say it is even less than that. I used to bash the majority of my boxes when D was still a warrior. It happens maybe once every 50 boxes. Very, very rare.
