View Full Version : Berserk training

So I just started berserk training on my little warrior. I'm very excited about the skill, but the training sucks.

Anything I should keep in mind about making training go faster/easier? I read up on KP, so I know that wounds give me a penalty for going into a rage, so I'm making sure I'm always unscathed before trying.

The sauna task sucks ass. Waiting for stamina to recover so I can continue trying sucks ass. Anything I can do to help with this? I'm going to put stamina recovery in my AG badge as soon as I can...should I try to squeeze out the points for 3x PF?

This should be fun, I've been looking forward to using Berserk for a long time :)

The first ten ranks blew.

At rank 10, you start on the dark chamber reps. Boring, time consuming, but very easy to work up.

Basically, I walk into a warcamp and kill guards. The minute the alarm sounds, it's berserk time.

As Stun said, the first 10 ranks really suck; it gets a lot easier once you get past those.

Warcamps at lower levels using zerk is super easy until you start getting to level 40 when casters spawn with WoF and they start kicking your ass while you're zerking and they're in defensive casting at you. Unless, of course, you've got millions of silver in items and crazy spellups.

Berserking is a blast. My warrior is 24 and he soloes warcamps using that and mstrike. Every time I get that small itch to switch him to a paladin, I go out and use berserk and forget about it.

Berserking in a warcamp seems like a great way to get myself completely wasted...still at level 15 :(

Or are you guys talking about after mastering the skill?

In any case, I'll just stick it out for the first ten and hope it gets better. Danke.

Okay, you guys are all lying bastards. Ranks 2-10 were easy and fun. This dark room crap, though...it sucks! I call shenanigans on "easy after rank 10"!

;)

In all seriousness, I am having lots of fun with the skill. Question: at what rank can I reliably break out of stuns/webs/binds with it? Also, if I do something stupid like forget to get my weapon out, or berserk with something in the left hand (polearm in the right), am I just screwed? Or can I do anything about it?

(I'm diversifying with Batter Barriers, I figure it'd be nice to open my own boxes (provided I can detect traps reliably at some point). That skill also seems absurdly easy, but then I'm only at rank 3, so...)

berserking empty handed is the number one way I die. You are just screwed. Number two, if you are interested is zerking among the dead and the bless wears off.
3rd you ask? Void/implosion

Screwed until you automatically stop or run out of stamina.

Is there a point at which the dark room reps don't suck horribly? Or are they constantly updated as I gain levels and ranks to always be very difficult to achieve?

Stunseed

You get more reps as you gain ranks. With 53 ranks in Berserk, Auvreaian can get from 12-18 reps per chamber session.

What the hell, man?! "Get worse" wasn't even one of the options I listed! :(

=P

I was actually expecting that, but I'm more concerned with the difficulty of achieving a rep. I don't mind doing 5-6 more reps if each rep only takes a quarter of the time it does now. Does it get easier to break the stuns as I gain ranks?

Stunseed

Absolutely! A chamber session normally runs me 7-10 minutes, tops. :)

I mastered berserk last, it took me several years to get around to it, and back then it wasn't as good as it is now. But with redux and decent plate, I was glad I waited to finish it. I was getting reps in Krags barehanded and had no deaths from it. It was much more dangerous for me warcrying roa'ters back in the day.

Mastered tackle first, but did berserk second in my early 30s on my warrior.

I have to say - "back in the day" this skill was cake to master. There was no stamina useage for berserk, but it had that annoying cooldown period. It seemed like reps went fast. I mastered it in like 2 weeks out on the glacier, which fully spell-tanked was no problem at all. I can imagine it being a challenge at that time for anyone hunting above 50 or so, but in the lower trains when mass spells + a dim and a powerful look would usually make it fairly easy to hold your own.

Plus, you can slap on full plate for berserk reps when undertrained in armor use, and have no RT penalties.

did berserk first, right away 15-20 and it was one of the best decisions i ever made.

Not hard to find something at the lowest end of your rep range and berserk in front of them. And at the lower levels, you can get spell tanked and have zero risk.

Or find something that hits with a fist. I've gone from 0-53 in my mid 20's after mastering tricks first in plat. Almost 80% of it done in the spider temple.

A scraggly tree struggles to grow through a broken boulder resting on the edge of the low cliff to the north, a monument to tenacity. Though it hangs at such a steep angle that it looks dangerously close to falling over, the tree's strong roots keep it steady. The narrow trail continues up the steep slope to the east, though its markings in the rocky soil are growing more faint. You also see a black leopard and an Agresh troll chieftain.

Unencumbered and uninjured at the time the clip started. What should my DS be?

Edit: I just picked up 6 more ranks of PF and checked into the inn, and it was enough to activate my redux :)

For a stretch of about 2 weeks I was dying in grimswarm camps, a couple of times a day, due to getting webbed and bound. I had 5 ranks in berserk. Since then I've bumped that up to 28 ranks in berserk and have stopped dying completely.

That is very encouraging, since I have pretty much decided to put this guy in GoS :)
