I know many who are getting one. It's going to be a fantastic piece of kit. Until a better one comes along in 6 months.

I don't feel it's worth the upgrade from my 3G. Aside from a slight boost in speed and memory, there's nothing there I really need. I have no use for a digital compass or voice commands, and my 3G already has a video recorder on it.

Aside from a slighly better camera and battery life, what do you get out of it?

Voice control
Video camera/editing
Improved performance
Auto GPS Scyn with compass
16G more space
And the camera is actually much better... which I use almost everyday for work. I WISH they had a flash on it though.

Only because I still have a year on my current contract, so I don't get the $200 off. If you are new to an iPhone or still have their original, it's only $299.
Not bad. Enjoy it. I would be all over the iPhone if I wasn't so use to my sidekick 3G.
I'm going to be spoiling myself with an iMac soon. Now that I can't wait for. ;)

If Apple would get their head out of their ass and get a carrier besides AT&T, I'd get an iPhone immediately. Even with the old version.
This means that those who have the 3G will be more willing to sell when they upgrade. EBay is going to be jumping with 3G's, which means more apple IPhone users.
Smart move by Apple, pricing them at the same rate as the older model, and not discontinuing service to the older models.

There's talk of Apple working with Verizon. I'm patiently waiting for them to finalize that puppy.

I'm giving mine to my wife who busted her screen. It was a great day, since she kept asking me how long it was going to be until I broke mine on the job.
Thankfully, she doesn't want a new one. :)

Yeah, I was planning on getting one as soon as my 2-year with Verizon finished up. Then I found out on Sunday (after losing my phone the night before...don't ask) that it only costs $110 to cancel my contract. So I actually costs me less to cancel my contract than a month of service. Retards. So after my trip, I'm canceling Verizon and switching over to iPhone land. Pumped.

You can unlock the iPhone pretty easily and use it with Verizon or prepaid. Just google "iphone dev team." I'm using mine right now with some shitty Israeli pre-paid card.

Do all the iPhone features work? I'm not sure if this even applies since I have no real understanding of the phone and how it works, other than it has a bunch of apps that can do things, and a touch screen.

Yeah everything works, if you have an iphone there is no reason not to unlock/jailbreak it. If it starts acting funny you can just restore it on itunes. Apple often "locks" your iphone through the course of regular updates so if you want the new updates then you will most likely have to unlock/jailbreak it again.

The iPhone has a ton of programs that need to be connected to an internet or cell data network to be useful, so in the case of a pre-paid card these are only available if you're nearby a wi-fi hotspot (which, if you're ever walking around a big city, they're everywhere). But, in the case of just regular (non-3G) cell network, most of these utilities won't work over a slow cell-data network anyhow.
But that's just pre-paid (minutes-only) cards. If you unlock/jailbreak and then use a Verizon account that has data included you're good to go with everything--and in some cases like when it was first released you could get an unlimited data package from Verizon for $4.95/month that worked perfectly on the iPhone, of course the same thing on AT&T was like $30/month.

This is totally incorrect. AT&T's GSM network is totally incompatible with Sprint/Verizon/Alltel/US Cellular's CDMA networks. An unlocked iPhone will work perfectlyt fine on T-Mobile's network for voice calls, but you'll only get EDGE data connections because T-Mobile's 3G network is incompatible with AT&T's. The U.S. cellular market is complete bullshit.
P.S. I am loving my Pre and am pleasantly surprised with Sprint's coverage in my area as I am getting a decent 3G signal pretty much everywhere.

Yea. The new iPhone is really nice, but the amount of upgrades might not be worth it to everyone. I'm loving the speed though, it's very noticeable.

I think the big thing people love about the iPhone is the huge amount of applications. Think of something normal you would like on a phone and chances are there is an application for it on the iPhone.

Yeah, iPhone has a good assortment. A lot if available on Windows too though. Personally, I believe Blackberry's OS is the worse off when it comes to apps.

No where close to comparable numbers though. iPhone has tens of thousands of applications available. You think you need an app for something.. chances are it's already been done for you.

I updated my 3G to the new 3.0 firmware.
Now whenever I've got music playing, if I touch the screen for anything (like moving the volume slider, viewing other tracks, toggling shuffle/repeat on and off, etc.), my music automatically fades out and pauses.
It's really pissing me off -- anyone know how to fix this shit?

No idea but I'm pissed that all my sounds didn't copy over and I have to set all my PWs back up. The other thing that is irritating is that I can't get my old phone working for my wife.

Well I was falling asleep at my desk so I went across the street to the Apple store to check out the new iPhone. The main improvement they made in my eyes is that the landscape keyboard now works in all modes. That was one of the main hang-ups I had before, because the portrait keyboard keys are too close together it and was the only option in the text/email utility.
So I'm reconsidering buying one. I still dislike AT&T. I'll have to do a search on iPhone killers to see what the main other choices are. I like that the Apple store has live versions so you can see how things actually work instead of the stickers they put on the screens in places like Best Buy.
Edit: Can you put your own music on the iPhone or do you need to use iTunes to buy it? Can you edit your own ringers or must you purhcase them?

I would guess that you can put true MP3's onto the phone, but not any other format but that and itune junk.
Have you considered just "jailbreaking" the iphone so that you can use it on another network?

Hmm I guess I could re-burn my CDs to MP3 instead of WMA, for the ones I actually own anyway.

I'm not sure T-Mobile is much better than AT&T. It's one of my hang-ups about the Google phone. Jailbreaking is only for software, not unlocking the SIM, AFAIK.

Can't you import the WMA right into itunes? I know I helped someone import their music awhile back. I hate itunes so I avoid it when possible.
Jailbreaking the phone will alow it to be used with any network but you have to becareful with iphones. Apple likes to release software that completely disables jailbroken phones from what I hear.

You don't need to pay for the songs you put on your iPhone, no. You can create ring tones from sound files via iTunes but I believe it is a dollar per.
