Actually, a "check out what I did with this CMAN" thread may be fun. Such as... when I decide to disarm a runestaff from a dissembler just to pick it up and hurl it at its face.... or using a timely cutthroat, or hamstring, or.. even some nifty clips of sweep doing some damage with flaring/spiked armor. Whatever... All I know is that if I've downed a critter to 50% HP or less and it isn't dead, I failed.

Just curious, do CMANs like Hamstring and Coup that incorporate WSpec into it double the effect of WSpec?

That is to say, if you're using two weapons of the same type that you're WSPec'd at rank 5 for, will you then get +20 to the CML roll or only +10?

I think as a general rule if you have WSPEC <weapontype> and use one in both hands it applies to both hands.

No, they don't stack. And it's capped at +40. Not to mention his first coup (+26) was better than his second coup, so the second coup would have just kept the +26. He must have done something else edited out of the log to increase his AS, like putting signs back up.

And I'm guessing since the difference is +16 he put up surge.

Agreed. Coup seems far more warrior-oriented wherein warriors require higher as because they lack the crit weighting and pushdown ambush gives.

Yeah but look - Deron is an elf with almost maxed dex/agi/str, huge AS, doubled CM and ambush. He has a high ambush success rate (90%)

but the whole issue is,
1 you cannot ambush heads all the time when you're in a group
2 if the ambushes fail coup is a nice thing to do to a stunned critter that just wont die
3 it looks cool
4 hide/rambush X head/r gets boring after the 100000th ambush?!

k?!

like trust me i power hunted a cleric and a sorc to ithzir age i think i have played long enough to know what i want.. its not a matter of "what is perfect" for whatever profession.. its a matter of "i'm paying for this game and I will design my character in a way that provides an enjoyable experience for me.."

in 2003 my cleric had maxed stats (before fixskill existed or fixstat) and I was hunting ithzir ambushing in hauberk. I was fully trained for bane when it came out.. etc etc.. so i've done "uber" before now i'm just trying to have fun OK!?!?

I just had this discussion, on the other side of things in the empath folder... You know, "I do things THIS way" and someone chimed in and said, "NOOOOO you're WROOOOONNNNGGG" and I said "Fuck off, if it's wrong, I'm going to keep doing it wrong because I like it." check it out... it's kinda funny.

Stop looking at coup as a means to kill a creature, in and of itself.

Think of it this way: if there was an auctioned item you could use that had the same requirements, you'd be creaming over it. zomg...sacrificial dagger that gives +30 AS!

Is it overkill? Probably. But you can hunt fine to cap with 4x vanilla equipment, so everything beyond that is to a degree. it's not like you go out and coup every single thing you fight. Get your buff and then it's back to business as usual.

Coup is not a combat maneuver, per se. It is a group buff with a combat related prerequisite.

Also...it looks badass.

Who are you even arguing? The last week or two you've done nothing more than try to brag about being around for a while. Get over it. Most people on here have been around just as long. Chill out a little man. You sound like you have some good ideas and good intentions. Just relax a little.

NEENER NEENER NEENER. I've been around longer than YOU! My game seniority makes me right by default.

Sorry chief, it doesn't work that way.

Coup is still, in my opinion, a STUPID maneuver for a rogue to get. If it's working for you, and you enjoy it, by all means, keep it. There is no wrong answer, despite the assholes' (myself included) opinions here. :troll:

Duh. I still like it. So it means your guaranteed +60 roll essentially.

If you want to think about it in terms of a boost to AS, it's +30. On average a d100 roll will be 50. On average a 60 + d40 roll will be 80. So over the long-term you will see an average boost to your effective AS of 30.

But as vulva said it's better thought of as insurance.

Weren't you that guy that stole Summir's shield in the Rift, lied about it, and then tried to hide behind the GM's when Edgeleaf kept handing you your ass?

In my opinion the usefulness of coup really comes down to how often you group hunt. If you only solo hunt, then there aren't many situations where coup is a better strategy than ambushing. Either stuff can be killed with one hit, or it can't, and it also can't be stunned and couped.

But it is a great group bonus, and it has the intangible of being badass going for it. Plus who doesn't like seeing a higher AS? It's more suited for a warrior, but that doesn't mean it's a bad cman for a rogue.
